It does what it says it will do, Good enough for me.
The sound frequency is doubled, that much is true, however not the entire wave spectrum is doubled equally. It seems to raise the Higher Treble frequencies fairly well however the Lower Bass frequencies seem to only be raised by half to 75%, but that's fine. If any higher you get really annoying pops looking at the structure of the Waves after the booster hits them. My colleagues and I used some equipment at school to measure the before and after sound frequencies and that's how we came up with this review. Overall it does its job fairly well and aside from the lower end, the mid to high ends are boosted nearly 100%, around 90~100% boost.Do be aware though.. Not all speakers can output the boosted sound. If it sounds cracked or artifacted after boosting. It's a limitation of your speakers/headsets and probably your own fault for not properly testing on another device that could output a louder signal(ie your computer you're reading this review on).I bought the Black Boostaroo from Radio Shack but it's the same item.

This little doohickey does a wicked job of power-enhancing the audio from three sources (my two KVM-connected laptops and old boombox radio). Coming into it is my nest of audio converter cables. Coming out are the feeds to the headphones and speakers. Works as advertised. In fact the Boostaroo has become a permanent fixture, glued as it is to the top of my ConnectPro KVM. My only regret is that I probably should have shelled out another $20 and bought the electric-powered Boostaroo instead of the battery-powered (as I have to remember to switch it off when I walk away to save on batteries).

Great tool, excellent sound!
Great tool to play bass while my son plays the drums. We channel in a tune and jam to practice a song, then take it off and play without music once we've got a song down. The sound quality is superb. I use Bose QC headphones and my son uses Sennheiser headphones, but of excellent quality. Sound quality is not hindered with the amplification. Occasional interference may occur due to amplification, but to be expected for the price.

It has been upgraded w/an LED 'ON' light - a good feature in a battery powered device
I am familiar with this device. It was sold by Radio Shack some years back. It has been upgraded w/an LED 'ON' light - a good feature in a battery powered device. It works for me, but I would be happier if it had a volume control on the output. Probably could use three volume controls. Maybe they could redesign the mother board - take out one of the out ports and put a volume control in it's place. I have never had occasion to use more than two of the outlets.

airplane bliss
I first heard of the Boostaroo at the Indianapolis Brickyard when I desperately needed more volume from my scanner/headphone setup. But my main use comes when I settle back into a long airplane ride with my Sennheisers strapped over my head, my iPod doing what it does, and the added volume of the Boostaroo turning good music into great. The volume improvement is substantial but not dramatic. You'll still want a good set of headphones with some decent capacity. But when you add the AA-battery-powered Boostaroo to that, you get some really fine sound. The splitter option allows a companion to tune into the same music if he or she also had a set of headphones perched or inserted in the appropriate part of the human physiognomy. In fact, you could do a three-fer, but that would categorize as a bit extreme. For more of a good sound, at the racetrack or while traveling, the Boostaroo is the best available portable and affordable solution.

Worked Great
Bought this item to use on the family vacation. The children were able to listen to the audio through headphones while my wife and I listened to the car stereo. The audio output from the portable video player was sent to the Boostaroo via a very long extension cable and it worked flawlessly. Signal was strong all the way through the trip on the initially installed batteries. The only feature that I could suggest would be a automatic power off, if no signal is detected for a certain amount of time. There were times when we just forgot to shut off the unit when we left the car, especially after the late night child extractions.

Busted Junk
This product arrived, and looked nice enough except for the tape holding on the battery door. When we tried to use it a few months later on a trip (long flight), it did nothing. I changed the battery, nothing, no sound, nothing. Wasted 20 bucks, and now way to late to ask for a refund.

Perfect for flights
We bought this for a transatlantic flight and it works great. It allows multiple people to tap into the audio stream and after revise the volume loud enough to overcome the jet engine noise. Great battery life as well
