Delicious strong-tasting mace
I used it in a recipe for mace cake, a lovely pound cake to which I like to add golden raisins and black raisins.Flavor is similar to nutmeg but not quite the same. I've made the cake both with nutmeg and with mace and I like the mace just a bit better.I love Frontier because their products are always great quality, and many (including this one) are organic. That means it has not been fumigated with methyl bromide as some inorganic spices are. I don't know that anyone has ever proven an issue with methyl bromide fumigation, but I do feel it's being increasingly used on so many products (citrus and most almonds now, for example) that I'd like to limit my exposure when I can.

Mace...Nutmeg's Outer Sibling
First time I've purchased mace. Mace is the outer covering of the nutmeg seed. To me, it is stronger tasting than nutmeg, has a peppery finish, and is not quite so sweet. If you are out of nutmeg you can use substitute mace, using only about 20% less. I will say the canning plant was having trouble with their sealing machine and mine came with the flavor-seal unattached and jammed into the lid. Thankfully none of it spilled out into the shipping box. The lid is a shaker top with a snap lid.Mace is wonderful in cakes, baked beans, hot chocolate, meat marinades, custards, glazed carrots, chowders, pumpkin pie, breads, cobblers, homemade pickles, waffles, cookies, BBQ sauces, cheesecakes, sweet potatoes, meat/seafood rubs, pastries, and even donuts made with my Chef Buddy Mini-Donut Maker.

Excellent quality and value.
Mace is not a readily available spice. I like to sprinkle it on raw peaches or use it in a peach pie. It's a delicious spice and I like the fact that it comes in a larger size. The only mace I could find in the stores was in a small envelope and pricey. Like all other Frontier products, this is good quality and reasonably priced.

Add this to all of your holiday spice cakes and breads.
Excellent quality, organic, and an adequate amount for the holidays to enhance anything that calls for spices like nutmeg. The mace is especially hard to find it my area. Perfect for persimmon bread.

Love good old fashioned mace like this
Lovely homey spice. It's so hard to fine locally. I'm so glad to find it on here! Many of my old recipes call for this one. Yes you can substitute nutmeg instead of this one but I still enjoy the flavor of mace sometimes.
