David Kimble's Cutaways: Techniques and Stories Behind the Art Hardcover – September 17, 2015

If you follow Cutaway art at all, you will know that David Kimble is the top guy in the field. With the advent of so much computer graphics power being available, this is becoming a truly lost art. The detail in a Kimble piece is almost more than you can take in at times, as it is so layered that it is tough to interpret, but that is the beauty of a piece of art showing a complex organism like an automobile ... and he puts it all in there. This book goes into his technique which tends to be counter-intuitive, as much of it is done "upside down" compared to most artists. If you have ever considered doing one of these, or have looked on it in wonder, or do illustration of your own, it will be of interest for you to see how one of the all-time masters of the artform creates his treasures. Great addition to any library that includes automotive subjects.

I'm a muscle car/racing car freak and this book is awesome. The detail of the pictures just blow me away. His art of the engine, motorcycles and GM products is just great. If your a gear head then this book is for your library. He cover s Corvettes, Ferrari's, motors, including the Chevy "Mystery Motor". They 'spill their guts' so you have a view of the nuts n bolts of the subject.

Good to read on how David Kimble does his art, Printing is not of top-notch quality to show his artwork properly

When you view the stunning cutaway art in this book you are seeing sheer genius at work. Although I am a former technical illustrator of over 20 years, I would never presume to achieve the level of David Kimble's incredible art.I doubt if readers, especially those unfamiliar with technical art, will understand the methodology of Kimble's techniques as explained in the book, but so what - just "looking at the pictures" is well worth many times the cost of this book.

This is one terrific book. 192 pages from an amazing car enthusiast with extraordinary skills as an artist. There is a detailed explanation of how David Kimble was able to prepare such elaborate cutaway drawings and his topic selection as presented in this book are first class. Excellent drawings and photographs are beautifully presented in this book. A must have for any car enthusiast from a modern day world class artist..

Kimble is the best. Too bad the car magazines no longer seem to care about showing off what's lies beneath the painted metal. No one illustrates it better. I would really like the Complete Works of David Kimble - should it ever be produced.

Wunderbare Zeichnungen. Man kann die Augen gar nicht davon lassen. Unglaublich die Zeichentechnik von David Kimple, eine Präzision. Tolle Verbindung von Ingenieur und Kunst. Leider im Zuge der CAD-Syteme eine aussterbende Technk.

I bought this as a Birthday present for my (43yr old) son. He and I liked it so much I bought 2 more,one for myself and one for a good friend of mine. Nuff said.
