This wasn't quite what I was expecting. No doubt, the color plates are good as is the bio. Just didn't connect with the artist.

Her pieces at MOMA and the Whitney are grand. And this book is a great representation of her best pieces. The NYT also has a great article about this exhibit. AND PBS did a retrospective many years ago. She was a great painter.

The background of Alice Neel is superb are the examples of her work. A nice reference/coffee table book.

I had hoped to see the Alice Neel exhibition at the Met Museum in NYC in person but didn't get there. I knew I wanted a book showing the paintings but I was concerned at having no information about the quality of the prints in the book. I needn't have worried - the plates are beautifully rendered.

This is an important addition to coverage of 20th century portrait painting by a little known American female painter. A high quality book overall.
