As a retired kindergarten and first grade teacher, I sometimes tutor children (and even adults) that need some help with reading. SOME never made the association that words are made up of letters and each letter has its own sound. By sounding out the letters in the unknown word, one can "figure out" that unknown word AUTOMATICALLY as they read.The most important skill for beginning readers is decoding words. That means looking at the letters of a new unknown word, figuring out the sound each letter makes, "sounding out the word phonetically", and putting those SOUNDS together to DECODE the word.That's how I was taught to read in the early 1960s. Many baby boomers and subsequent students learned the same way. Then came "whole language learning" where you just learned each "whole word" to read.This "whole language" approach to reading bypassed and de-emphasized phonics (sounding out the letters in words) to a generation of students which is why SOME adults may not read as well or as quickly as others. Some folks just "figured out how to read all on their own" but others did not.Thankfully the phonics approach, learning to associate the sounds of letters to "read" unknown words made a very dramatic comeback and is now taught in early grades in schools.However, the COVID shutdown of schools means that many children did NOT learn the basics of learning letters/sounds ("sounding out the word") through the necessary daily practice in their kindergarten/first grade classrooms. Now some students are struggling to "catch up" in their current upper classrooms.A great solution is tutoring for students of all ages which can help create and inspire better readers!That's where this particular product can help! I used a similar set in my classroom for 20 years and I now use this set when tutoring to teach letters and sounds associations. We make a game of singing a song with the NAME of each letter, the SOUND(s) of each letter, and the associated PICTURE for each letter sound.(example: "Apple, apple, short sound for /a/" repeated twice. Then "Ankle, ankle, long sound for /a/" repeated twice. Then repeat for each letter of the alphabet. Go through the song at least 2 times a day.)Learners then can automatically decode and sound out new/unknown words when they are reading. It makes learning fun and automatic for readers of ALL AGES!!!This set of letter/sound/picture cards is a FANTASTIC tool to help with learning! Learners can hold them in there hands as they sing the song or they can be displayed on the wall of their home.

I hail from a low-income family; unfortunately, the majority of Americans do as well. It was cheaper to purchase the banner and cut it into cards; because I didn't like how the card version of the banner the way it cut off the pictures. I have a one-year-old boy. We do a lot of flashcard learning. I was looking for cards that were large enough for the infant/toddler brain but also included manuscript so that when he learned to write, it would appear precisely the same. I also wanted cards with authentic photographs of daily stuff. You would think that large cards with real photos and content would be easy to obtain in children's cards. It wasn't. Many don't carry the white background with pictures. It helps the child to focus. All flashcards, even those with real photographs, do not include the manuscript aspect of how the alphabets appear on a tracing background. This banner was the closest.Now, if you are not good with cutting ✂️ don't even do it just get the flashcard version of this banner. But, if you are like me and like the tracing background with the letters for future use maybe this works for you.The other bonus is having the extra phonic sound cards that came with the banner that the flashcard version of this do not have. Hope this helps. In the future I hope they make flashcard version with the tracing background in big size, so I wouldn't have to use a banner.

9/17/16 Took me a couple days bc my son the great helper (aka mess maker destroyer) was trying to help but ripping things n yadda yadda so... finished it this morning while he slept & this is what happened as soon as he came out here! Gave a hug & a kiss to his alphabets haha. I didnt read description i guess but assumed they'd be laminated but they are stickers, which was difficult for my obsessive compulsive tendencies but i got 'er done! :) Very happy with it. Had to remove the first row to change placement & was able to get them off, no damage to walls & get them right back in place. Was happy they were actually stickers bc i was worried how I'd get them up so my almost 2 yr old couldnt rip them down. Now they can be in his reach and he cannot get them off :) very pleased. He is great w/ animals & their sounds so I'm happy this is a mix of things to work on all different kinds of things with him and he really loves it :):)**Update 10/2/16 ** Not a fluke, unlike the leapfrog computer thing I got, he liked that for a couple days & just gets out once in a great while... These alphabet stickers were probably the best thing I got for him in a long time lol. Every day he grabs my hand to go over there & Go through each letter & their photos. He just absolutely loves it! & With baby #2 on the way we'll get use of these for quite some time to come!

My son enjoys looking at this while learning the alphabet. It’s a bit easier for him to sort them since they’re grouped together. Also a nice feature that each letter has two items pictured to help with phonics

I loooove this alphabet! The blue color is perfection! They are different, but it's a great pop of color. They are durable, easy to put up, and great for a classroom, or just to use to teach letters as they have pictures on them also.
