I'm in the real estate business and use plastic signs to mark property lines. The ink in the Sharpies lasted less than six months in the sun before the ink faded to unreadable. With the Pilot markers the ink lasted 2 years, and stayed black as the hinges of Hell the whole time. When it comes to picking a marker that I need the ink to really hold up over the long term, that was all the evidence I needed.
