Hobie Sailing Rudder Blade 2015 81397001

This is absolutely the easiest and best upgrade to any Hobie that has the smaller rudder. You turn so much better, and it helps track so much better. Slight adjustments to the steering actually turn and steer your vessel. Not sure why Hobie didn’t just put these on all their models.

This rudder is quite a bit larger than the regular rudder. I have not sailed with it yet but it certainly allows some tight turns with the Mirage drive. No problems installing but you may find it difficult to lower/raise at first because it is heavier. I am looking forward to sailing with it but I plan to get the outriggers for better stability (Christmas is coming). I am not sure if the rudder control will be easy to use when holding the kayak on a tack but I'm sure to find out so I'll let you know.

Does not fit older Hobie Outback. Rudder design changed at some year.The description should state what year and model it fits.

This is the best upgrade that you can make to a Hobie Mirage drive kayak. The larger rudder installs in 10 minutes and makes the boat track 100% better in wind and rough water conditions. While it was intended for lateral resistance for sailing, it improves directional control in every condition. There is no noticeable added drag even in flat calm conditions.

this rudder blade is well worth the investment cost. It will increase the response of the kayak on the turns, making it so you don't need a basketball court to turn around and can turn easily.

Increases length and pretty -much doubles rudder's submerged surface area.Cons: Extra weight strains the twist-n-stow system. (I may need to adjust.)Bought this to improve handling while sailing my pre-2011 Mirage Revolution 13. I will update after trying it in the water. (Keeping my fingers crossed.)

Turned much faster than I ever thought possible. This is a must when sailing. Helps with traction upwind especially, and broad reach. Low drag due to thickness and sheer design.
