What's the difference between the kids Sulfur 8 and the original?

First it is not as thick, and second, the formula is designed for children's delicate scalp.

No it’s a grease that conditions your hair. And it’s good for dandruff. My grandma used it on use when we were kids.

Is it a leave in conditioner or do you use in shower to wash off?

It's hair grease. It goes on the scalp. It leaves the hair oily. You don't wash it off, it just soaks in the skin. The scent is quite powerful so use small amounts.
