This was very moving to read. Heartbreaking in some ways. The courage required!I have read the first two vols twice, have to reread 3 and 4. The writing style and information presentation follow a different tradition, and it’s hard to just go for the good stuff. About a third of this volume is background material… about the tribes, about the history of the hijaz, the history of Makka, which was a busy pilgrimage town long before the Prophet was born. the background of his family and their standing in the tribe… then the stories unwind, with mulitiple versions confirming who said what. a must-read, particularly for anyone learning about Islam.
