One of the most recognized monuments within London is Her Majesty's Royal Palace and Fortress, more commonly known as the Tower of London. This historical monument sits on the north bank of the Thames River. The Tower has been used as a fortress, royal palace, and a prison for high status and royal prisoners (like Anne Boleyn, Queen Elizabeth I's biological mother). The Tower has also served as a place for executiona nd torture, an armoury, a treasury, zoo, the Royal Mint, a public records office, observatory, and since 1202 has been the home of the Crown Jewels of the United Kingdom. At least six ravens are known to reside in or atop the tower, and have never been removed due to supersticion. Charles II believed that if the ravens were to leave the Tower, the White Tower, monarchy, and the entire kingdom would fall. To prevent their flying away, the raven's wings are clipped. They are cared for by a Yeomen Ravenmaster, and all raven inhabitants of the Tower are named and their ages noted. There have been many famous people imprisoned within the famous Tower of London, and it is also considered the most haunted building in England. The ghost of Anne Boleyn is said to have been seen in the chapel of St Peter-ad-Vincula, where she is buried, carrying her head under one arm. Other famous ghosts include Henry VI, Lady Jane Grey, Margaret Pole and the Princes in the Tower. Shakespeare's play, Richard III, uses scenes that take place in the Tower.Teapot holds 2 cups (about 20oz), and is not recommended for microwave or dishwasher use.
