It solar and actually works !
This was a joke on my grandson. When he was little he said he wand a fan just like the ones off the highway. So I got him this one. He loves it, keeps it on his window sill and turns it on. He was so excited when it worked just like the bigger ones. So cool

Does not rotate like it should
When put under light/ exposed to sunlight this is supposed to spin. It does not. It seems it catches on something inside the top head that You can not open with out breaking it. I kept this in a box for the longest time. When I got it out to use it. It was a dud. I bought this for students to see both solar and wind. VERY DISAPPOINTED.

I love this little wind turbine. Great model, and IT SPINS!
The media could not be loaded. I worked in the wind industry logistics business for a few years a while back, moving the blades, nacelles and tower sections around North America for a railroad, and have always held a soft spot for these marvels of engineering. This item is wonderful fun. It's basically a light powered turntable, similar to what I have used to display models in the past, modified to have the drive shaft "power" a model of a wind turbine. Just plop the turbine assembly onto the shaft, place the unit in light (sunlight, artificial light, whatever), press the switch to "on", and away it goes.Since I have experience with these turntables, I know to reverse the direction (as there is only one direction wind turbines go: clockwise as viewed from the front , AKA "upstream"), just stop the turbine while it's turning, and give it a nudge in the direction you want it to go. You may also find this model stutters a bit if the light is interrupted, so just bump it back into rotation. When I was in the industry, I bought a replica of a wind turbine that looked a lot like this, at the international wind power show in Chicago, and it was made of metal. This little guy is plastic, but it's still better than my old device, since IT SPINS!Highly recommended for anyone who loves engineering, wind power, green energy, etc..

Does what it says, but only in the strictest sense
6/28/21 UPDATE - So I was getting very frustrated with the lack of any type of performance from the windmill. The "blade" mechanism has a small metal bearing that helps keep everything spinning and in place. A little WD-40 on that bearing, and this bad boy SPINS! Even in indirect sun through a tinted window, I'm getting roughly 1 RPS, and in direct sunlight sometimes I worry it'll fly off of my desk! Knowing what I know now, I would buy again.OLD REVIEW - It's incredibly cheap, and there's not much at all to put together so it's easy to assemble. And yes, it spins when receiving solar energy, but it really only works well outside. Any type of indoor tinted window severely hinders its performance to the point of barely twitching. And after only 1 day there's a very noticeable squeak. I'm sure a little WD-40 can fix it, but it's annoying to have to use that so early. And it stores no energy, there's no battery, so you can't turn it off to "charge" it. It's on and sunny or nothing. Cute but meh.

not working after a while
This solar-powered windmill model worked well for the first two or three weeks, but then it stopped functioning. I suspect the issue is that the pieces are not properly aligned. It also made a slight clicking noise while it was working.

Easy to put together but doesn't turn much
This was really easy to put together for my 7 year old but even when sitting in direct sunlight the blades barely turn on their own. My son still likes playing with it but the solar part doesn't appear to work well.

Worked right away
My kids were learning about solar power and I got this windmill as a visual for them and they loved it! It was very easy to assemble and started working as soon as we put it in the sun. It even came with an interchangeable flat plate that rotates and could probably fit a matchbox car or a small trophy. Highly recommend

Doesn’t turn
It doesn’t work. Motor turns but blades don’t.
