This is a 3 speed hub for track or fixie purposes. Going down a hill the pedals keep moving...if you want to stop you can back pedal. IT WILL FIT STANDARD FREEWHEEL HUB THREADS. I wanted simplicity. Now I got a 16t freewheel hub, 53t chainring and the perfect commuter bike.

Yes it can, I used the S3X hub with a freewheel.
