Preforms well.
Have used it with a Plextor DVD-RW drive, a Seagate 8TB HDD and a Samsung QVO 2TB SSD. All have performed well with no compatibility issues. The unit I got did have the power adapter failed after 4 power cycles. Not a big deal as I have lots of 12v 2A adapters. I did notify Vantec; the rep was very friendly and helpful. I explained there was no need to send a new supply, but the rep insisted and sad it is part of their service when our product is defective and in warranty.Long story short. Defective power supply, company backups their warranty.

Helped revive old hard drive
My very old, practically ancient external hard drive stopped being recognized by computers. Somewhere a wire must've disconnected or outright fried. This device worked flawlessly and helped connect the drive to a Chromebook (of all things!) and retrieve all of the saved data. It's simple enough to figure out for a non-tech person and easy, quick to use. Recommended.

This is the eSATA to USB 3 Adapter to buy. (CB-ESATAU3-6; Vantec NexStar eSATA to USB 3.0 Adapter)
This is a review for the Vantec NexStar eSATA to USB 3.0 Adapter (CB-ESATAU3-6).This adapter works well: just plug it in, and it works. In short: If you're in the market for an eSATA to USB 3.0 adapter, this is the one to get!Note that this adapter is intended only to connect an eSATA external device to a USB 3 port on your computer; it will not work the other way around. This is the third eSATA to USB 3 adapter I've tried and the only one that worked for my use case. My goal is to make useful an older Mediasonic ProRAID external RAID hard drive enclosure that has only eSATA and USB 2.0 connections. Even if I can't get full USB 3.0 speed, the eSATA connection has got to be better than USB 2. An adapter to give me better speed from an existing device is much preferred versus having to buy and configure a whole new enclosure.Other adapter brands that shall not be named did not work with the old Mediasonic box. This Vantec adapter does work: While I am not getting full USB 3.0 speed, this adapter did more than double the transfer speed I was getting versus the USB 2.0 interface on the old Mediasonic enclosure. Success!I am also happy with the Vantec instructions; this is the only adapter I've tried that had instructions good enough to give me the clue I needed to make it work with my old Mediasonic device. The Mediasonic box shuts itself off if it does not detect an active computer connection, saving electricity and wear on the drives. It can be a great feature, but presents a connection and troubleshooting challenge when using an adapter between RAID box and computer (as opposed to direct connection); you are not given really any time to fiddle with the adapter before the Mediasonic box shuts itself off.The Vantec instructions clearly state that the connection order should be: First, connect the adapter eSATA end to the external device, then power up the device, and THEN connect the USB end to the computer (after the external device has powered up); that way, the computer should auto-detect the connected device. Connected in that order, the computer does, indeed, recognize the device very quickly; in its turn, the Mediasonic box "sees" the computer and does not shut off. (Timing can be critical, though, to get the connection established before the device times out and turns itself off. )In sum: Get this Vantec adapter; it's the one that is most likely to work.
