Worked better than I expected it too.
Chemical Guys DIRTTRAP02 Cyclone Dirt Trap Review I recently bought a couple of the Chemical Guys DIRTTRAP02 Cyclone Dirt Traps along with their buckets, and they’ve been a great addition to my car wash routine. The traps are designed to keep dirt and debris at the bottom of the bucket, and they do their job well. This helps prevent any grime from getting back onto my wash mitt, which is important for avoiding scratches on the paint. The design is simple but effective. It fits securely at the bottom of the bucket and does a good job of keeping the wash water cleaner for longer. After each wash, I’ve noticed how much dirt gets trapped below the insert, which gives me peace of mind knowing that I’m taking better care of my car’s finish. One thing to note is that these inserts work best with the Chemical Guys buckets or similarly sized ones—if your bucket is smaller, it might not fit properly. That wasn’t an issue for me since I picked up their buckets at the same time, but it’s worth keeping in mind.Overall, it’s a practical product for anyone who wants to step up their car washing setup without overcomplicating things.

Best dirt filter for 5 Gal Bucket Wash
After reading the other reviews, consider the complaints of others. Filter doesn't fit normal 5 gal bucket. Try the 5 gal Home Depot transparent mixing bucket from the paint department for $6. The filter disk is not supposed to sit on the bottom unless you wish to limit the dirt to the bottom 2 inches of the bucket. It fits perfectly in the bucket I ref. I found a pro tip to use a zip tie to aid in removal. I used the 2 short center opposing holes, as it's easy to pull from there. When I used the dirt traps the first time, I was amazed that the water under the trap was noticeably black dirty in the transparent bucket. In addition, the wash water bucket grid was filthy underneath, I used a wheel brush with a tiny bit of soap to clean after use. As far as the whole size, mine were fine, not sure if some batches were different, but mine are consistent. Finally, I picked up "Fasmov 3 Pcs Plant Pallet Caddy" from Amazon to put the buckets on to roll around my washing area. They are made very sturdy, wheels are not perfect, but they are a fraction of the price for the bucket dollies.

Two Bucket Car Wash method dirt trap but read on
OK, I am a two bucket hand car wash method Jag owner. This novel dirt trap insert interested me since it supposedly is a one-way trap to keep all the washed off grit below the trap so your rinsed/soaped microfiber mitt is rid of grit that could scratch your paint.Three things to note:(1) These are custom diameter inserts that are specifically made for the Chemical Guy clear wash bucket (which is slightly less than 5 gallons)(2) They can be used in a traditional 5 gallon wash bucket BUT the trap won't go all the way down to the bottom of the 5 gal bucket which is slightly smaller in diameter than the insert. This means while it stays in place with friction once pushed into the 5 gal bucket, it is a PIA to remove by hand since there is nothing to firmly grip on to pull up and out. You have to wait until your done with your car hand wash and then dump the 5 gal bucket upside down and bang it on the ground to have the friction fit insert grate fall out of the bucket.(3) When using with the Chemical Guy clear companion bucket, the insert fits and goes all the way to the bottom of the bucket. It can spin in place at the bottom of the bucket. If you push down on one end of the submerged perimeter of the insert, it tilts up on the opposite side so you can easily pull out BUT this also means it can float if air bubbles get underneath the grate when filling the bucket with a hose or partially refilling when your content of liquid to suds ratio lack liquid after partially washing your car. If it floats, the grit can then rise and remix in the bucket water defeating the purpose of having the grit under the insert and clean water/suds atop the grate. There are other bucket wash grates that can sit at the bottom of a 5 gallon bucket but those usually have more open grates so they are not a one-way type grate yet they will not float up either.I guess I am OK with the Chemical Guy customer bottom one-way grit grate and custom less-than-5-gallon companion bucket but I can't give them 5 stars for the above reasons. If their grit grate fit more tightly in the bottom of the bucket so it won't float AND the bucket were a true 5 gallon, they'd get 5 out of 5.Oh, and buy two different grit grate colors so you know which bucket is the clean car wash water and which is the dirty rinse water. Suggest the latter one be black like I purchased.

It fits older 5 gallon buckets / not newer ones.
I bought two of these wash bucket inserts and they work great. Reading several reviews, many note that it does not fit in the "standard" 5 gallon buckets you typically buy at big-box stores. Here's the scoop.... They fit perfectly in standard 5 gallon buckets that were produced several years back - I have several buckets that are 10 years old. However, many of the buckets you buy at Home Depot/Lowes/Menards/etc... today are actually smaller at the bottom than older buckets (my speculation is they save some money on material when producing the buckets to help improve the margin on the product sold). So, if you have or can find "older" 5 gallon buckets, this product fits great out of the box. If you go to Home Depot and buy a 5 gallon bucket today, it will not go all the way down to the bottom of the bucket and fits lousy (I read where several people sand/remove some of the material from the bucket insert to get it to fit - sounds like it would work but is a hassle, in my opinion). Best option, find an "older" bucket - it will work great. Also, a great tip I read from another review.... Put a plastic zip tie through the middle of the bucket insert. This will give you something to grab onto to pull it out of the bucket when you want to remove it. This is a great little trick.
