Great Study Guide
This is a great guide for the PHR. I passed the test on 8/16 and used the following materials to supplement this guide:- PHR Pocket Prep App- PHR Review Guide, James Galluzzo - Really only used this for the questions- 500 Practice Test Questions, Olamide Akesun- Sandra Reed, Complete Practice Tests Workbook (1,000 questions)I read this book several times to really hammer home the material (there is a lot!). The first half of the book is dedicated to the PHR and the way it is laid out really helps you focus your studies. There is also an appendix in the back of the book that goes over most of the important laws and cases.I did spot a couple of errors. In the Chapter 3 practice test regarding adverse impact, the question is incorrect in the book, but if you use the online bank (same test), the question is correct. There was also a question on intrinsic/extrinsic rewards on the chapter 5 quiz that seemed to be incorrect. If you read the book, it would lead you to believe the answer is "extrinsic" reward. When you answer the question, it states it's an "intrinsic" reward. Also, in this guide, Kurt Lewin's change process theory is described as "unfreezing, moving and refreezing." In the old guide (and pocket prep app), it is described as "unfreezing, changing and refreezing." The wording is similar, but I'm still not sure which is correct.Regardless of the minor errors, I still believe this is a great guide. If you are to buy one guide to spearhead your studies, this is the one.One note I must point out, the test itself is really going to challenge you. My advice is to take TONS of practice questions to reinforce the material. The way the questions (most of them) are worded on the test will throw you for a loop and make you really think about the underlying issue at hand.

Some disappointment with edits
While I appreciate the content in the new addition, I have run across some info that needs updating/correction.New addition states exams are given at Pearson Vue sites but in the area preceding testimonials by former test takers, it also states (as with previous edition) that the tests are administered by Prometric (which is not current info). Then a couple of (end of chapter 3) questions have the same question as the previous edition but the new edition does not contain the correct answer (on adverse impact) as the old edition did. Another question from the same quiz, is about RIF and ADEA but the topic is discussed towards end of book, not current chapter.I think because the PHR topics were separated from SPHR topics the quiz info was not scrutinized closely to move out of sections.Check each answer with chapter material as the answer may be found elsewhere in book. The material seems solid but I think careful edits would have helped. I will update if there are concerns but am only on Chap 3 and have other material to study from. Glad I have previous edition to help clarify.

Not worth the purchase
I bought this book because it was indicated that access to two test and flash cards would be included if the book is registered at Wiley. Once I attempted to register the book to access the supplemental study materials that is when my issue began. I was not able to register the book because the message on the site indicated I already registered the book. I called Wiley for assistance but they were not able to assist.

Detailed and well structured
This text is very well laid out and covers all the key functional areas for both the PHR and SPHR. What I found most rewarding is that once you get to chapter 7 and beyond what you covered in earlier chapters is reinforced and things begin to stick. The review questions serve as a guide as to how much of the content you digested and what you might need to review again. Appendix C is life! I am referring to it until I sit the exam. The bonus online practice tests give you a chance at the end of your reading to facilitate a comprehensive assessment of how much you retained. This book is worth every penny!

Digital aspect and tech support is lacking...
I would give it 5 stars if I could get all of the digital elements to work. And tech support leaves much to be desired. But the book itself is a great resource tool.
