Readable to me
Don't know why people have complained about size/boldness of the text - seems perfectly legible to me and appropriate for fitting so much information into a small book. I'm reading it inside the house- don't know if reading it outside (in the field, so to speak) would change that assessment. I'm just assuming that there are a lot of older folk who are birdwatchers and therefore a disproportionate amount of people with bad eyes. Don't know how you could see the actual birds well enough if you can't even read this book inches from your face!Other than that, nice artwork, quality binding, and lots of good info. IMO, sized appropriately to be able to travel well but I'm sure there are nit pickers on that front too.

Great for a birding beginner!
Bought this for a coworker of mine. She is new to bird watching and it’s the perfect size for a small bag or back pack. Very detailed pictures and descriptions. Great for anyone learning how to bird or wanting a nice guide to bring into the field.

A work of art
This is a valuable resource for comparing different birds that look similar, e.g., warblers. The amount of detail is excellent. But I gotta say beyond that, Sibley's illustrations are a real work of art and make this book a pleasure to read both in and out of the field.

A very nice bird book that's small enough for a jacket pocket
It's a great little book to ID birds. But because it's a little book, the pictures are quite small.Dear Sibley: Digitize your books and sell them as cellphone apps. Tap any picture for a full screen shot, and digitize the bird songs. If you have the data, you could put in short videos of the birds in flight, as many birds have a distinctive flight pattern or wing position. Couldn't hurt to add a Life List feature so user could mark off what birds they saw, where, and when.I kept the larger format Sibley book. It's even better than this one, at least as sturdy, and the pictures are a little bigger.

Took some time but I really Like it
At first, I was like many of the people in the reviews, thinking the pictures and print were small. I started using the guide and I have come to really like it. There is a lot of information and tips that help tell the difference between similar birds. The pictures are very detailed and accurate. I would suggest use it and give it some time to get used to it, I think you will love it too.

An excellent guide
We took the book on our trip to New England where we found it to be invaluable helping us identify the birds we saw. Many of which we were unfamiliar with.
