Reaching for the Sky: The Making of Marina Bay Sands Hardcover – September 1, 2013

I was after a book mainly concerned with the construction of the Marina Bay Sands, this topic only gets a brief look at. It does however look at the whole project from planning, design, construction and commissioning.The book is divided in to chapters that cover the different aspects of the project and the chapters are written by architects, project managers etc that were in charge of that aspect of the project.I was disappointed by the lack of information on the construction of the buildings but having said that I did find reading up on the rest of the project very interesting. There are plenty on colour pictures and design drawings.

Speedy delivery, good condition and a wonderful memento of a stunning stay on my coffee table forever. m

After visiting the hotel and been given a night at the hotelit was wonderful to find a book to explainthe structure and architecture of the hotel.it is beautiful and captures the magic and amazementof this magnificent hotel.We loved the book to explain our experience to friends and family.

for non-architects, this is a beautiful book that captures the power & majesty of this building. i saw a glimpse of this building when i was in singapore on 2010. it looked impressive but i did not have much interest in visiting it[as no desire to gamble]. This books makes me regret that decision. From a design point of view, the building borrows inspiration from LVMH JAPAN & kengo kuma's work. So it is not breathtaking like Herzog & de Meuron's bird nest in china or Jun Aoki's work for LVMH or LVMH HK, or Seattle Public Library by OMA but it is still interesting.The pictures were very professional & corporate like[but very good night & day shots]; not many moody or artistic shots like Richard Pare's work for tadeo ando. That is a disappointment. Enjoyed the interview of Sheldon Adelson & research of the artwork on display.update: check out megastructures story of this building. gives you great insight into the complexity. got to give credit to safdie for the selection of artwork. great stuff. wondering if lvmh had any design input in the crystal pavillon as it look tailormade for their style.
