Impressed! Insulates in many ways
So I bought this for my old 1920s bungalow apartment because the gaps in the windows and baseboards let in so much hot/cold air during the more extreme weather months. I think it definitely helped make the cooler air more consistent in here and I don't walk into "hot pockets" in my apartment anymore. Additionally, one benefit I did not expect or plan for was smell insulation! I live in California where the air is thick from wildfire smoke right now, normally my house would smell like a campfire right now due to the bad insulation, but it does not, and I think it's due to these things. Worth a try for how little they cost - just a tip I noticed: it's easier and neater to work in foot-long sections (cut with a hard edge like a knife), and peel all the pieces apart before you start putting them up. they tend to fall apart when they stretch too far and it becomes a frustrating mess. Working in foot long pieces made it the EASIEST thing.

fiddly, but works if you take care
i can understand why so many reviews of this product are negative. if you just go at it without taking the care to work with it properly it will absolutely turn into an unrecoverable mess.1) refrigerate before using. i had two boxes of this, it came in from an 80°F day in the sun and delivery truck. it was very warm and soft and gooey. i put one box in the fridge and /tried/ to use the other box without cooling. Without cooling it was too soft to work with, like many of the photos of negative reviews instead of pulling apart it simply stretched and became unworkable. the second roll was in the refrigerator for about an hour before i used it, and it was much easier and faster to work with, and had no loss of product.2) if it gets squished at all in transit or storage it's not going to come apart. it's just not. cut the squished bit off and toss it out. i lost the first 8" of one roll, and the last 10" of the same roll because the stuff was too stuck together to pull apart. rather than fight it and try and save, just accept it as trash.3) work in short, sharp, pulls at 90° from the direction it's attached. ie) if you're unrolling, "peel" it like an orange by keeping your thumb close up against the split between the roll and the end, and only peel off short bits at a time. yes, unrolling it takes FOREVER like this. It will however keep it from getting deformed or stretching out.4) keep it supported at all times. if you let it hang, its own weight will pull it and stretch it out. so while you're unrolling the main roll, and while your pulling apart the individual ropes, keep the full length of it supported at all times. Once the full roll is unrolled, then move to peeling individual ropes apart, again using the same short sharp motions at 90° from where it's stuck to the rest of the ropes.5) finally, when applying it to your surface, rapidly "tack" it into place by pressing lightly every inch or two first so that the weight of it is stuck up and supporting itself as quickly as possible rather than being left hanging while you work. then move to actually pressing it firmly to the surface across the full length. and voila, you've successfully used this product.there's really no excuse for this being as horrible a product as it is, except its price point. at last 50% of the frustration of using this could be overcome with packaging. rigid packaging, and a layer of non-stick film between the layers as it's rolled up would go a long long way towards improving customer experience.finally, what i really needed more than anything to use this product well was a tiny roller ball to press and smooth it into place. try as i might i could not find anything of the appropriate size or material to work with this stuff. i ended up using a tiny wooden spoon to "roll" along the rope calk to press and smooth it into place. it mostly worked. but an actual silicone roller wheel tool sized ~4-6mm in diameter would make this stuff a dream to work with. InstaTrim "White PVC Inside Corner Self-adhesive Flexible Caulk and Trim Molding" comes with a roller tool to aid installation, and it's pretty much exactly what this needs. this just needs one a little smaller than the one that comes with the InstaTrim product.

easy product to use!
I bought this ti fill in the gaps of my windows. It is super maluable and easy to slot into windows. It adheres really well. Fun fact, it doesn't stick to metal well as I tried to put a little under my front door where I saw a gap. It didn't last after one open/shut. Wood adhesion, however is great, I can already tell my little girl's room is a lot warmer with the gaps filled in.

DO NOT BUY. Gray not white among other problem
The description of this product is supposed to be a white rope caulk. What showed up was gray. They do make white I have purchased white in the past but what but I have useless gray caulk. And the cost to send it back is ridiculous. So today the $15 worth of useless caulk will go in the trash.Update. I decided to try to use some of this in places that won't be seen by others. The whole reason for white not gray. And the stuff sucks. You can't peel it apart it's all stuck together when you do peel it it's tough to peel and it thins out it doesn't stick it's horrible horrible horrible do not buyThird update. I was able to salvage enough to do three windows out of two full boxes. It doesn't peel right when it does it falls apart in your hands.I have been in the home improvement in construction industry my entire life. And I've never run across a putty product so inferior. This is a useless useless useless product. Almost two full boxes in the trash because it can't be peeled because it falls apart miserable horrible horrible horrible horrible.

Butyl Rubber Sealant? Color is Gray, Not White.
This product was adequate for my intended use (sealing a 1/16" wide opening between some wire mold parts). However, the package description and Amazon listing are misleading:The Amazon listing and package describe this product as "rope caulk". Neither the listing nor the package state the actual ingredients except to say that it is a "rubber-based caulk". It looks, feels and smells to me like the butyl rubber sealant that I've used many times in marine applications. If this product is in fact butyl rubber then users will probably want to know that is will never "dry" or harden like latex or other common caulks. Rather, it will remain pliable and sticky to the touch indefinitely. It will also attract dirt. Finally, although the Amazon listing describes the color as "white", it is nothing even close to white. In fact the color is a light gray.

An old tool that has worked well for a long time
One of our exterior motion sensor lights fell apart during a rain storm. It was old and ready to be replaced. The one I had on hand didn't fit as well as the old one and I had a gap between the lamp's base and the wall to fill. An item called rope putty had been one of my grandfather's favorites for filling gaps. They still sell it and it hasn't changed in a long, long time. It still works and it is inexpensive. I'm glad they still sell it in reasonable lengths. This stuff goes a long way and in many cases it can be used again later because it is so flexible. Nothing pleases me more than something that remains the same because it is so useful. Rope put hasn't been replaced by something newer.

Worked as desired
Product worked as expected kinda hard to work with if the rope gets to warm will stick to the roll wish they had it lined with something to make that part easier. But installed easy and stayed put. Easy removal if your mess up too.
