My son loves this so much that I bought it as a gift for two other toddlers
We all loved the Very Hungry Caterpillar as a child, and this book scratches that same itch: that desire to poke your finger through the holes! My toddler (now 2, was ~14 months when my MIL got it for him) has loved this book so much that it’s had to be taped up twice along the spine from his violent affections, and when I’ve bought it as a gift for friends’ children, they’ve both immediately taken to it and wanted to read it straight away. The story is written as a poem, which is lovely, and the pages are bright block colours to attract a child’s eye, with detailed drawings to keep them coming back. We’ve got other books by Lucy Cousins off the back of this, but this one is still the best!

Beautiful book for daddy and baby
Lovely colours and a well designed book to enjoy with your baby. Bought for my god daughter and appreciated that the story is told from the perspective of daddy woodpecker sharing the world with his child. Makes for an enjoyable read of something different, again and again while baby gets to peck peck peck, tap tap tap at storytime

Good book but holes are too small in the hardcover version
Bought the hardcover first but the holes are too small for any child’s fingers to fit through. They are holepunch sized holes. Too small even for a 6mth old which seems to remove a key point of the book - that it’s interactive. I checked this wasn’t a fault before returning for the paperback version which has the right sized holes. Odd choice by the publisher to not make the holes a sensible size in the hardback edition. Otherwise great book, but go for the paperback.N.B. The replacement paperback was dispatched by Amazon in packaging that was narrower than the book so it was obviously damaged in transit with the cover and pages bent and creased, so had to make a second return for another replacement which was quite annoying.

Yes Peck Peck
Really sweet book for little ones, it was a favourite for my 3 kids and I now buy it for gifts to others. Paperback copy is nice as you can stick your fingers in the pecks (holes), but obviously more prone to tearing over the broad book. The broad book version has smaller holes - still an enjoyable read, highly recommend. The story is of a little bird and Daddy, a change for some from the mummy-centric reads.

Buy, buy, buy!
A marvellous rhyming story with deceptively simple illustrations. I read it to my grand-daughter tonight.... Then again...and one last time. Nice that is the little boy and Daddy woodpecker in this story. So often it is just mummy! As he becomes better and better at pecking, there are more and more holes to stick little fingers through, and lots of vocabulary building as the child recognises the pecked objects. A lovely happy ending as the tired little woodpecker settles down in his nest, and Daddy kiss-kiss-kisses him to sleep. I suspect that this is one we will soon know by heart.Really recommended.
