My husband and I recently moved across the country and after our house was packed I realized I had no way of making my tea (I prefer loose leaf and had packed 2 bags of it in my suitcase). So I perused on Amazon here and found this guy. Works great for making loose leaf tea until you want to drink it in a moving vehicle. You have to take off the top, remove the filter, have a spot for the filter and expect that where you set it will be soaked, OR the filter does have a built in resting spot in the holder, but if you fill the cup to much, or are in a moving vehicle, it doesn’t work well at all. If you don’t remove the filter before drinking be prepared to have a mouthful of coffee grounds or loose leaf tea. (Although it does make for good comedy when you husband takes a drink while driving and doesn’t realize you haven’t taken out the metal filter and gets a mouthful of tea leaves.). The cup itself is nice and aesthetically pleasing, and once the filter is out drinking is easy, but you only have about 10-15 minutes of hot liquid before it really cools off, and if your steeping/brewing your coffee/tea, or allowing the filter to drain, it cools off a lot faster. I’ve had to transfer cup to microwave the tea, and then transfer back so we could get on the road.Cleaning the filter isn’t always easy. If you don’t want the coffee/tea down the drain, it becomes quite a hassle as whatever is in the bottom doesn’t come out easily and you need to run water over it to help coax it all out, can also take a few minutes.

I can't comment too much on the filter functionality as I make my cold brew in big batches via other means. (Would it be fresher if I just pre-ground the beans, then brewed daily? Might have to experiment...) Anyway, what I can say is that this thermos is beautiful and definitely keeps my iced cold brew cold for hours even in this summer heat. It functions perfectly for my use, though--minor gripe--it would be nice if the lid was just one piece. It is easy to clean due to being dishwasher-safe. When I broke my first after a year of use, I stupidly ordered another one before finding out that they would've replaced it for free. I love this thermos so much that I absolutely needed a new one.Now for the downside. Yes, Soma was gracious enough to replace both of my broken thermoses. And yes, I said "both" because as soon as I received my new thermos, I promptly let it slip out of my hands where it dropped a couple of inches, shattering all over the counter and floor just like the first one did except this time with a full bottle of cold brew. I'm still emotionally scarred from that incident. Even though Soma has sought to make me whole again, at this price it seems like if they intended for these to be at all mobile, they would make them out of tempered glass or something that doesn't completely shatter upon impact.Overall though, I'd rate 4.5 if I could, but have to round down to 4 for Amazon.
