Learn to read music the way you learn to read text
Using this for an 8-year-old student just learning to read music. As we're only a few pages in, this is only an initial impression. I like that it's not at all theoretic--no defining terms ("an eighth note is a half beat, a quarter note is one beat, a half note is two beats") which confuses a lot of younger kids not ready for that kind of abstract learning. Instead, you speak the lyric which tries (mostly successfully) to mimic the rhythm written. Speak it first, read it second, more like the way we learn to read text, and concrete rather than abstract. Second advantage is the layout: large enough notes, very short pieces gradually getting longer, sequential learning with a single concept introduced at a time. Probably best for younger students, but I may try this on emerging readers who won't take offense to the childlike presentation.

This is just as described. I appreciate the fast delivery.
The delivery was fast. It was well described. This will be an asset in my endeavor to teach my granddaughter to play the violin.

Great book for the very young, duet form and very easy very short pieces.
I teach violin with this and works best with very young kids as the pieces are very short! Non-threatening lengths so little student don't get as tired or discouraged. Duet form so the young can start on top line, as they progress they could play slightly more challenging easy secondary line underneath. Flexibility in teaching from this book!

This is wonderful supplement for Suzuki students between the ages of 3-6
This is wonderful supplement for Suzuki students between the ages of 3-6. I use this for clapping, singing and practicing basic left hand finger and hand positions. For older students ages 7 and above (or those who are at least past Long, Long Ago in Suzuki book 1) I think there are better options out there that are more appropriate for their age and level.

CUTE
This product was first requested by one of my students who saw the picture of the book on the back of her Suzuki book. We ordered our first copies recently, and now am using them with all of my young students. Although the book is intended to be used for rote learning, just as the first Suzuki songs are, we will use it to facilitate note recognition and reading as well.

Not fantastic but not a total waste
Got this for my daughter because the title was cute so I thought there would be some cute songs in there for her. She had been playing a few months before I found this book and she found most of the stuff in here to be pretty boring and very basic. I think we would have liked it more had we purchased it when she was first learning.

Great simple songs to give a child practice
Great simple songs to give a child practice. Good for adults who are just starting out and need short simple songs to practice basic technique and who are tired of twinkle (like me lol)

good purchase
This book was hard to find in store. Got it on Amazon. Good price, delivery, etc. Just FYI that the "songs" are just one or two little lines from each. Very basic, but good for a beginner's confidence to start understanding notes and rhythm.
