Terrible customer service
I am writing this review to beware anyone who is thinking of purchasing sundazer products. I had high hopes of being able to run a DC chest freezer off my battery bank on my off grid Farm. I have a 48v DC system and paid extra to have the unit installed with a 24v/48v converter installed from the manufacturer. The unit arrived and I when I connected it to my 48v power source the fuse blew. It took several weeks of back and forth with Sundanzer due to their poor communication and customer service to figure out that the unit was never fitted with the converter that I had paid for. Not a huge deal, problems happen, but it took them another several weeks to ship me the converter which I had to install myself, something I had paid them to do. After installing the component myself, which I am no expert and why I paid extra to have them do it in the first place, the unit still does not work. They are very difficult to get a hold of and customer service is near non existent. I would be very wary of purchasing anything from them. They clearly do not value their customers and they do the bare minimum to help when there are issues. Good luck to all who are off grid and trying to find DC powered units, Sundanzer is not a good company to work with, buy anything from, or support.

It lives up to the hype
This is the second unit; the first was the freezer model. It's extremely quiet and uses very little electricity. The minimum energy requirements found on several websites is also valid and needs to be followed; each of my unit is connected to two 100 Watt solar panels that charge four 81 Amp/Hour batteries (via a charge controller). Everything, was (or can be) purchased through Amazon, except the battery terminals and battery cables. Interstate Batteries is close to the house and has or can order all the bits and pieces needed; very convenient. Short-and-long power outages seems to be a weekly occurrence in town, and by slightly modifying my life style, such as hand-washing dishes and laundry, my monthly electric bill (for usage) is less than $10. These units are solidly built, and should last a lifetime.

Two Stars
Hinges wore out on all three of the freezers I bought very quickly. Now the lids won't stay open making access difficult. Would hope for reasonably priced replacement parts. Hinge parts prices are $40 each plus shipping - consider they wear out quickly. If anyone has had this issue and knows of a cheaper hinge replacement please let me know.

Very efficient, but could have better design
I've had one of these for about 10 years and it's been a great option for fridge because with my off grid system it used as much power as a compact florescent light bulb. That's amazing. The chest design helps it to be super efficient and not dump all the cool every time you open the door. It is much less convenient than an upright design though. Obviously the chest design is better for a freezer that you are rarely going into. You just have to get used to it or you may always be frustrated by it. It's just the price of superefficiency. Some major issues: The interior is lined with some aluminum alloy. This works well for a freezer because aluminum doesn't corrode at freezing temps. It does corrode at fridge temps though, so I saw the lining begin to corrode after a few years and by year 6 or so there were holes forming. This led to the moisture in the walls and on the coils. After 7 years or so the fridge stopped working fully as the refrigerant was blocked and not circulating through the whole coil. This might seem like a long time to have a fridge, but this one is far more expensive than other fridges and I think they could address the issue by simply lining the interior with plastic. But this is essentially a chest freezer with a fridge thermostat, which is why the interior doesn't work for fridge temps.

No help from Sundanzer when gaskets, handles and temperature regulation fail...
Sundanzer has designed and built a product that they know will fail and provide NO replacement parts or help when things go wrong. We own a small, off grid cafe and have had lots of trouble with the two units we bought. The door gasket seal has worn out on the first one and when I called Sundanzer for a replacement, I was told they were not available. "Do you mean the door seal is not serviceable?" "No, it is not." Frustrating. Well, while I had him on the phone I asked about the door handles. The plastic handles are very "winky" and broke after a short time. "Yes, they'll do that due to the negative pressure, if you jerk them." I understand the partial vacuum created and we were NOT abusive to these handles. Upon inspection, one can see that they are just poorly designed. Also, being a commercial kitchen, we are subject to county health inspections which require all areas of the refrigerator to be 40 degrees or colder. If these refrigerators are set so the top baskets are at 40 degrees, the food in the bottom freezes. "Yes, that's what they do." So I asked, "Do you sell a circulating fan so this doesn't happen?" "No." Three strikes and you're out. I will never buy another one of these units and will suggest that none of my friends or customers buy one either.

You can easily buy more solar and batteries to even it out
There is no reason to buy this at that price. You can get a cheap chest freezer and even if it pulls more power. You can easily buy more solar and batteries to even it out. Its pretty much a joke at that price.

This is a great product for off grid living
This refrigerator meet and exceeds my expectations. I live off the grid, and needed a refrigerator that would not use too much power. This is it! It is also very quite.
