Looks like publishers referenced "Notebook" as after thought.
Gave up reading halfway through...felt like the publishers thought that there was no real empathy or love story to tell between the two main characters so had to drop the odd bit in about Noah and Ally to liven it up. The references didn't even make sense (didn't Noah die with Ally in his sleep?) and the main story was that she wrote the book when she found out she was ill, not that Noah did.It just seemed like it had been stuck in as an after thought to sell the book.If you haven't read the Notebook (definately do) then perhaps you'll enjoy The Wedding. For me, you would be better reading/watching Crazy Stupid love as it deals with the bored, middle aged couples theme in a much better way...entertaining and realistic.

the loveliest book ever
Having seen the notebook on dvd I decided to try this book. I hadn`t read any of Nicholas Sparks` books before - I don`t tend to read books by male authors for some reason. I enjoyed reading this book from the first page as it`s from a male`s perspective and one I didn`t expect. Being in my forties and married for over 20 years I could identify with the problems in the marriage - I suspect that many women would like their husbands to be more romantic! I thoroughly enjoyed this book and couldn`t put it down - the ending is lovely. I recommend it to anyone who has been in a relationship for a long time - I don`t think my daughter would enjoy it as much to be honest. Now all I have to do is to get my husband to read it!!!!!

For those who wondered what happened after the Notebook..
I've read this book several times; because I love reading it after the Notebook (it gives a more detailed insight to what happened after the classic love story that is narrated in that particular novel) but also because I love it as a stand-alone.For those who think love and life is all about roses, eat your heart out. Perhaps a more modern version of the Notebook (after all, our relationships these days are affected by tv and internet and people focussing on their careers), this story focusses on regrets and mistakes and how to make them better.Heart warming, romantic and sad all in one.

A love-story with a big difference.
Attorney Wilson Lewis has worked hard throughout his thirty-year marriage to support his wife, Jane, and their children, seldom giving a thought to other needs they may have of his time. Now with some degree of shock he has reason to fear that perhaps Jane is no longer as contented with their marriage as he is. At the approach of their thirtieth anniversary he sets out to atone in the most spectacular way. Written in the first person, this love-story with a difference held me enchanted throughout
