Yes this replaces the ceramic factory grate that comes with your Big Green Egg. Note, this metal grate creates lots more heat than the factory ceramic grate, it caused my BGE to get so hot the BGE table caught on fire and I almost lost my BGE.

Q: Can you tell me which side should be up? On one side the holes are tapered, the other not. It did not come with instructions or markings.

think of the tapers as a very inefficient funnel for helping to get rid of ash buildup, I have found ZERO difference in the way it works no matter which side was up.
