Would be better as a TV series
I was really disappointed with this book and only finished it because it was our set book for our book club. There are too many characters, the plot is contrived and a bit fake (which relates to the core of the story) and it only really picks up once the evening of the Anniversary starts. There are a few humorous scenes and universal themes which are interesting - control over others’ lives vs control over one’s own life, fulfilling one’s destiny vs refusing to be who you are meant to be etc but I never really cared about the characters enough apart from Grace. Overall, a benign book which I wouldn’t recommend as there are so many other great books to read.

Story telling at its best
I really love how Liane Moriaty writes, so much passion for words and her descriptions and characters just come alive on the pages. She is a classic example of a writer who 'shows' not 'tells', I am always able to picture quite detailed scenes in my head as well as what the characters look like, how they behave and speak. That said, this wasn't my favourite book of hers, even with the revelation on the very last page; I had guessed the twist just after halfway through the book so that didn't come as a surprise although I think if I'm honest it was a lucky guess on my part.It hasn't put me off reading any more by this author, I think when you find such a good writer your expectations as a reader just get greater and greater when it comes to future books. In spite of what I have said I do believe that Liane Moriaty is an excellent story teller, long may it last.

A good enjoyable book to read
I purchased this in 2019 and put it away for a rainy day and found it at the weekend! Lovely book and something you can sit with and just carry on reading. Yes, it was easy to imagine the true story if not the real parent but nonetheless it was a book I enjoyed reading. I've not read Liane's books before but I shall be purchasing more. Recommend.

One of her best.
I often find Lianne Moriarty's books complicated at the beginning because of the many characters. With this one, I wrote down a kind of family tree, as it is about a family. This helped me to keep track. Despite the complicated beginnings, I find it is always worth persevering with Moriarty's novels. I find myself drawn in, totally absorbed, as if the characters are part of my life. This is one of her best and would thoroughly recommend. Awaiting her new novel out next week.

Brilliantly written and enjoyable story. A must read if you're a fan of Liane Moriarty
I really enjoyed this book. Having ready most of Liane Moriaty's book, this one is very unique and written beautifully. There are quite a few characters in this book, but Moriarty makes each one so memorable and quirky that you get a clear sense of who each of them are and how they connect with eachother. I particularly enjoyed the character of Sophie and would like to read more about her. Moriarty could write a spin off book about all the characters in this book, as they all have their own story and unique perspective. Overall, a very enjoyable read
