Works well as a computer monitor
I wanted to add a review for using this as a computer monitor in case others were thinking of the same. The unit is very bright. I don't have to close my windows if I'm looking at high contrast things like text. Color isn't maybe as good as more expensive projectors, but I found it to be fine. I found that using 1080p resolution for desktop use was better than 4k as the pixels are a bit fuzzy at that resolution which makes text not look as good. This is due to the pixel shifting tech used (any 4k projector sub $1600-2000 will use this). The screen is very detailed at 4k showing movies and games, however, and the pixel shifting kind of adds a bit of an anti-aliasing effect. I dare say I might actually prefer a pixel shifting projector for computer use as it lets you decide between 4k 60hz and 240hz 1080p with both modes having their own strengths. I feel I have two monitors I like for different reasons which is cool. There is just a slight perceptible lag on 4k, but its really not bad. I don't notice any at 1080p 240hz. And it really does go that high, the difference between 120 and 240hz is noticeable, and it looks really good at the high refresh rate. I actually prefer it over my 144hz 1440p monitor. I don't think this would be good enough for esports compared to a 240hz monitor, but its very close. Remember to use the game mode. Overall it works better than I expected as a computer monitor and I'm happy with it and feel it was a good value for the money. Other thoughts -I wish the power plug was longer. I'm not going to install this in ceiling, and I had to use an extension cord for it to reach down to a plug that is only a few feet horizontally away. -The remote is a bit old fashioned looking. Not a big deal to me but I think ViewSonic should update the design. -Sometimes the unit makes a strange whirling sound that is annoying. Usually it doesn't and it has done it less as I have used it. Its not the fan, it sounds like something is spinning that is not lubricated. When this isn't happening I found the fan noise to be fairly low and constant. -Its very easy to switch between modes like normal and eco, needing only one button to be hit. This is really nice since the bulb has a lifespan. If I know I'm going to step away from the computer for a few minutes or am going to just be looking at text I can switch it to super eco in two seconds. -SuperEco at 240hz flickers, changing to a different refresh rate fixes this. Some tips: -Dynamic Eco is basically as good as normal in terms of color and brightness at least when its showing a bright image. That's my main setting. I think it just dims when the screen is dark. It is better than eco (but not super eco) in terms of bulb life according to the manual. -Make sure your resolution is 1920 by 1080 if you want 240hz. If its 1920 by 1200 if will default to 120hz. -if the projector is located above you, make sure you turn the projector upside down. It will need next to no keystone correction that way which keeps the image at native.

PX-701-4K Review: Excellent picture but the first one was defective
This would have been a 5 Stars projector if the first one I received was not defective. I was really impressed with the picture quality of this projector once I got it working. Which makes it a worthy replacement of my previous Mitsubishi DLP HD projector. Unfortunately, it was clear that I received a defective unit !!!!!!!!! This was clear to me within minutes of plugging in a 4K Apple TV unit as the source. I immediately heard a loud grinding sound. stopped everything unplugged everything and restarted... The same grinding started again. It was so loud and actually louder than my coffee beans grinder-No kidding! I removed the HDMI and connected a brand new 4K Apple TV that I had intended for this projector. It seemed to work fine and allowed me to adjust the image to my taste. A lot of control over color, picture quality. Overall excellent picture quality in 4k bright and detailed. On the first unit that was defective, there was somewhat a loud flickering sound -similar to an old 16mm projector running a film that was not as loud as the grinding sound I experienced with the first Apple TV I connected. It seemed really strange. When I pause the show, the sound stops, when I resume playing the show, the sound returns. I had to send it back and repurchase it again. I will update this review once I receive the replacement. Pros: -Super bright picture - that you can watch even with some daylight or soft dim light in the room. -High Quality picture -Beautiful colors -Smooth gradients and grayscales -Good on screen menu -Responsive remote (if you want the backlit version of this remote, it comes only with the PX 748 model) -Smooth zoom and focus ring for easy adjustment -Very Sharp picture from corner to corner -Auto Keystone feature - saves a lot of time and effort. -3 years warranty. Cons: Defective unit - makes me worry about quality control ***Update 12/15/22 I received my PX-701 4K replacement! Very quiet fan which confirmed that the first one I received was defective! Stunning picture quality on a good quality 100" screen ! I attached several photos from Apple TV as the source with 100" electric motorized screen by Elite Screens I do recommend this projector! It is a bargain for a 4K projector under $1000. ***Update 12/28/2022. I'm truly in love with this projector, specially after testing 5 different projectors from different brands. In that $900 range, I haven't seen a single 4K capable projector that comes even close to this 3200 lumens brightness and picture quality. I highly recommend it! **** NEW Update: October 22, 2025 Almost 3 years later and the projector is still working good. Picture quality is still impressive from an Apple TV 4K especially with good quality programs! Brightness and clarity on some new movies and programs still look amazing!

Good option for garage golf simulator
Good picture quality and easy set up for golf simulator! Limitations with the throw ratio made ceiling mounting a requirement, and still have trouble filling a 10x8’ screen vertical. There has been some lag, but playing mlm2 pro sim with iPad mirroring from Apple TV has worked well overall. Rating after a week or so of use, so durability and longevity are tbd.

Awesome picture
The picture quality its pretty dang amazing. I understand its not native 4k but still pretty good to me. The brightness is pretty good too. I had a couple of projectors in the recent past, which I have returned, and quality not even close to this one. Obviously this projector was much more. But its kinda, you get what you pay for. Only unfortunate side is that the screen is definitely much smaller than the other ones. At 8.75 ft it projecting approx a 70 in tv. Previous ones were doing about 100 in. But all in all. Im happy with this one. Yes the lamp light is not as long as the led ones but the replacement lamps and the ease of replacement seems simple enough. The price of a replacement is definitely tolerable as well. Would definitely recommend.

the 3D question
I purchased a ViewSonic PX701-4k projector from Amazon last week, it was shipped by Provantage LLC and received by me two days ago. I purchased this projector when my Samsung 3DTV died, so I could continued to watch my large library of classic 3D movies on 3D bluray disks. 3DTV sets are no longer made and the only reason why I purchased this projector was to watch my 3D bluray disks. I believed this projector was 3D capable, because in the question and answer section on Amazon, a customer asked if this projector was able to display 3D and the answer from Viewsonic was that it could show 3D. Also, a number of other customers on Amazon who were verified customers also stated that they have this projector and have used it to show 3D bluray disks. When I received the projector it worked normally in 2D mode except that it had no sound. I went to the 3D menu on the projector and enabled 3D, however, when I put A 3D disk in my Samsung 3D bluray player, I got a message saying a 3D display device is not present. 2D bluray disks in this player play normally in 2D through the PX701 projector except for the lack of sound from the audio out jack on the back. I don't know if this projector has internal speakers, but if it does, then they don't work. I have had no other problem with the PX701 projector other than the fact that I can't get the internal speakers or audio output jack to work. The specifications for the projector I found on one web site do say it has internal speakers. I contacted the seller Provantage LLC and they said I would have to contact ViewSonic directly, which I have done, but I haven't heard back from them yet. I have seen reference to a firmware uprgade on youtube which said the firmware has to be upgraded to use the projector in 3D mode, but there is no such firmware upgrade on the ViewSonic web site. If this is a case of a firmware update, then I'm willing to do that. I don't want to return this projector, because I have no other complaints about it, so I hope Viewsonic will come through with some solution to the problems. I will update this review as I go through the process of trying to get the problem resolved. THIS IS AN UPDATE ADDED ON NOVEMBER 5, 2022. When I contacted Provantage LLC and told them about the problem I was having, they told me there was nothing they could do and I would have to contact Viewsonic directly. I did contact ViewSonic on October 16, 2022 and they opened ticket number 248423 on my complaint. I worked with ViewSonic representatives Juan and Jerry for ten days and tried everything they suggested with no success. We went through all the menus on the projector looking for some setting that would turn off the 3D and sound and found no settings that would account for the problems. I replaced the HDMI cable with a new one that meets the latest specifications, and I tested both my 3D Blu-ray player and home theater sound system with different equipment and there was no problem with either one. I should also point out that the PX-701 projector worked fine as a 2D projector when connected to my Blu-ray player and I played a 2D disk (except there was no sound). On October 27, I contacted Provantage LLC and told them that I worked with ViewSonic for ten days, Juan at ViewSonic insisted that the PX-701 is capable of 3D projection with the version of firmware my projector came with. After working on both problems for ten days, Jerry, at ViewSonic Technical support, concluded that my projector is defective and should be returned. That same day I contacted Provantage LLC and told them ViewSonic recommended that I return the projector. Provantage LLC immediately emailed me a FedEx shipping label and a return authorization number. I returned the projector to Provantage LLC on October 29, 2022. That was a week ago and I'm waiting to hear what Provantage LLC is going to do. I'll update this review again when I find out how and when this issue will be resolved.

Gordon Ramsay would be pleased
Finally! Finally some good freaking food! If your here reading my review wanting to know if this is the one? Yes, yes it is, but you should really read my entire review. I've been using BenQ and ViewSonic projectors over the last decade. I love projectors, my living room is setup with a 100" 1.4gain motorized screen and a Dolby Atmos 5.1 surround sound system with a Sony box. Getting a projector installed correctly, dialed in and everything configured is significantly more work than just going to Walmart and buying a 65" TV for $400 and calling it a day. My god though the experience just doesn't compare. This ViewSonic is a light cannon and while does best with blackout curtains, it's easy to view in the daytime. The HDR works way better than I imagined it would and the high refresh rate at 1440p is awesome and a game changer. I have a "Steam Machine" gaming PC in the living room and it's so cool how well everything just plays well together. This thing is a serious piece of equipment and if you want to setup a home theater room I can't recommend it enough.

Low Dynamic Contrast Ratio effect on image quality
Why did you pick this product vs others?: Overall good enough brightness and ok image quality considering its lower price for a 4k 4000 lumens short throw branded projector. Pay attention to low dynamic Contrast Ratio: 12,000:1. It was noticeable to my eyes in moves scenes like in clear blue sky and bright whites like snow. It mattered so much to my eyes that I would rather use my old 1080p projector with better contrast ratio instead of using this 4k with lower contrast ratio. If contrast ratio matter to you, I would recommend considering Viewsonic models LX700-4K - 4K and LS901-4K which have Dynamic Contrast Ratio: 3,000,000:1. They are also more expensive 4K projectors, but contrast ratio is worth spending extra money if you can afford few additional hundreds. Chat GPT says, Why Contrast Ratio Matters for Video Image Quality: 1. Better Depth and Realism: A higher contrast ratio allows deeper blacks and brighter whites, making the image look more three-dimensional and lifelike. Scenes with shadows, sunsets, or candlelight look richer and more immersive. 2. More Detail in Dark and Bright Areas: With a good contrast ratio, you can see more detail in both dark scenes (like night shots) and bright scenes (like snowy landscapes). A low contrast ratio causes shadowy areas to look murky and bright areas to look washed out. 3. Improved Color Accuracy: High contrast enhances color vibrancy and separation. Colors look cleaner and more distinct, which is especially important for cinematic content, nature documentaries, or gaming. 4. Viewing Comfort: Low contrast makes video look flat and harder to watch for long periods. High contrast improves clarity and reduces eye strain in both dark and bright environments

Yes, The Px701-4K Does Support 3D!
First things first, because there is no mention anywhere of 3D support in the specs or product description there are a lot of comments out there stating that the PX701-4K isn’t capable of 3D. This is incorrect. It does in fact support 3D and it looks great! The older versions that were initially shipped did not support 3D. However, since then ViewSonic has made the necessary hardware & firmware upgrades to correct this. Now that the 3D speculation is out of the way let me talk about the projector. It’s a great 4K projector considering the price tag. True, it’s not native 4K but it does produce 3840x2160 pixels when inputting a 4K signal into the projector. The projector does this. by what’s called “Pixel Shifting “. This is done to expand the native 1080p resolution to produce an effective 4K image on the screen. So, basically, you’re still getting 4K resolution without the much higher price tag you would pay for a native 4K projector. When you play 4K content the projector also displays 3840x2160 on it’s display on the screen. Another nice thing is that it supports HDR & HLG. However, it does not support Dolby Vision which is not a dealbreaker for me. The 3200 ANSI lumens produce a nice bright and vivid picture. I also really like the auto keystone feature. I have the projector sitting on a coffee table which is much lower than my screen and I didn’t have to adjust anything. The projector automatically adjusted the image perfectly. The fan is pretty quiet as well and If you have a surround system you won’t hear it at all. I haven’t tried gaming on it yet but if the specs are correct this should be great for gaming too! Overall I’m satisfied with the projector.
