My experiences with the Savetek Portable Voice Recorder were fantastic. Mine was the 8GB Rechargeable Digital Recorder/Dictaphone, with up to 650 hours of recording time possible. Never in my life have I purchased so much for so little.I mean, the features were what I would expect to find in a professional unit costing many times what I paid. I was really astounded to find this quality and ingenious complexity (like an I-Phone) in such a miniaturized computerized voice recorder.Besides its seemingly endless features and functions, my Savetek came with its own set of earbuds, an RJ-11 telephone interface adapter and cable (for direct telephone recording), both internal and external microphones, a charge cable (mini-USB to USB), and a full set of easy-to-follow user instructions on how to use the recorder. Generally, I found the Savetek recorder to be a multifunctional device, capable of recording, playback, stop/go dictation machine functions, an MP3 player, telephone recorder, and much more.However, to get the most benefit from this miracle device, to operate all these varied functions, the instruction manual must be followed diligently. This is because the recorder has at its core very advanced programming requiring the user to follow the directions for each function sequentially, point by point.Usually, when I get a new electronic device, I am eager and impatient to start using the device right away and just abandon the user manual, trying to wing it on my own right out of the box. Most of the time, especially with the simpler devices and computer-related things, I do okay, i.e., I don’t need the manual. However, due to the great range of this recorder’s functions, this was not the case here. I found myself having to refer back to the manual for each new function. It soon became both my teacher and guide, first training me in each of the basic functions, and then helping me to move on to the higher level functions until, after just a short time, I actually attained a nice plateau of what I would consider expertise in using the recorder.In fact, after a very short time, thanks to the directions from the manual, I was able to record and playback at will, seamlessly. I tested both the internal and external microphones, finding them quite sensitive for most recordings I wanted to do. The MP3 player function was excellent; with the 8GB memory, I could store a huge number of my favorite titles to take with me when I traveled. Even the phone “tap” worked perfect on a test. The nice thing is that everything I recorded, which was always a near-perfect reproduction, from whatever source, could be stored on my computer for later review or whatever other purpose I had.There weren’t any real problems in operating the device. Once I read the manual (a few times) and mastered each function, everything went smoothly. The Savetek itself includes additional instructions and trouble-shooting files in its programming, accessible when connected to your computer; these are a godsend should you ever need them. So far, I haven’t.In summary, I have to say again that this was one of the best and most satisfying purchases I’ve ever made, almost a steal, considering the benefits garnered from the Savetek recorder. This and the knowledge that the seller has an excellent customer service record, means that I’m really looking forward to buying other great products that he and his engineers might come up with in the future. That’s a fact!

It definitely records all the little sounds too. And it is sensitive to all noise so there may be some static like noise, especially if your inside and the vents are going or a fan is on, it'll pick it up for sure. Definitely does its job, no doubt about it!

Always been an avid ghost hunting fan. Wanted to try it myself. This thing can’t pick up much more sound than your phone can though.

There are no instructions in the box. And wires going to everything. It's a hot confusing mess. I threw it away after trying to work it for 4 hours.

I ordered this last year and it won't record! It records for 37 seconds and then shuts completely off. When I try to record a second time it just says "overflow" on the screen. The one I have isn't even the one displayed here but when I go to "order again" in my Amazon account it says this is what I ordered. Don't waste your time or money. What a joke!
