Witness the Justice League's epic origins as Geoff Johns and Jim Lee reimagine the team's formation. The world's greatest heroes unite to face a dark threat. Review: Justice League origin take 52 - This is a great team Origin story. Love the art work and the story is big and bold enough to live up to live up to it. This volume contains all six issues of the New 52 Justice League. It also has the cover gallery of big A4 pages and the sketch designs. However these are all extras and would not mean anything if the story did not deliver. This one does. This volume is set 5 year before any of the other New 52 book this is the first time most of the 7 main characters have met each other, or anyone with their power levels that was not a bad guy. The story. Batman is investigation "paranormal demon" type creatures using super advanced teleportation technology. He meets the Green Lantern a powerful young man with a huge chip on his shoulder and also investigating the same tech. Discovering it the tech is alien in origin they think it might be connected to the most famous and powerful alien on the planet Superman, after the usual brawl to be the alpha (and other getting involved) they discover the techs are the key to an alien invasion now with the planet at stake they must shelve their egos and work together. Everyone brings something to the table. A pretty simple idea that is done excellently. This comics is full of big action scenes. Lot of explosions, and displays of power, with Jim Lee's big panel artwork to showcase this all. I love the new character design of the New 52 heroes and villains. All in all an awesome action packed comic. Review: The Fantastic Seven! - This is an excellent graphic novel. If you are just getting into comics then this would be an ideal starting point. It's a good origin story and a nice introduction to the DC universe (The 52). The story is good enough to sustain the reader throughout and our heroes get a decent villain to play with. In addition the art work is brilliant, colourful and lavishly laid out. The volume also has some cool double spreads! You can not go wrong with this and for all the super heroes involved I would say it is a must read and well worth a purchase!

Thumbs Up!
How would you reboot the entire DC Universe? Where would you start? Perhaps with a lone character gently guiding us into a new and different world. Alternatively you can cram all your best known heroes into one book and get them to have a massive alien punch-up. This premise doesn't sound particularly sophisticated but it sure works. Although there is a lot to setup and explain exposition happens naturally against the backdrop of unfolding action. Super-beings are just emerging into the world and have not yet become super-heroes. They are mistrusted by the public and each other. Characters are introduced slowly. Only when the latest hero is fully fleshed out and you have a grip on their unique personality will another member arrive - often at an unexpected moment. Some know each other and some know of each other but their awkward meetings make the perfect vehicle for us to latch onto and learn (or re-learn) who they are. This is a reboot and even though you are probably familiar with at least some of these people they do have a fresh new feel to them, a little edgier and stranger than you are used to. Comedy is an important part of superhero comics but it can easily become forced. The humour here is abundant and sophisticated. From Hal Jordan's rash bravado through Batman's dour stoicism to Wonder Woman's naïve curiosity, everything feels appropriate and respectful. The title is `Origin' and we get to see how the League comes together. We also get some information on the member's back-stories. We see the cyborg transformed before our eyes, hear Bruce Wayne (not Batman) relate the death of his parents and have Aquaman assert his noble lineage. Other members are more subtle with no mention of Clark Kent or the idyllic farm he grew up on. The art is traditional pencils and ink that captures the dramatic poses and bold colours from the golden age of comics. But there is a digital touch so you see some great motion blur, lightning strikes and wonderful graduated colour. The Green Lantern effects are particularly striking. It can feel a little rushed and sketchy in places but there are some fantastic single and double page vistas that really bring a grand scale to the piece. There aren't any weighty issues or signs of rampant flag waving on display. The plot is embarrassingly simple, but deliberately, so as not to trip up the characterisation or introduction. It is just one straight timeline from A to B. This lack of narrative trickery keeps the overall feel pure. It is the kind of spectacle and excitement that you experienced when you first started reading comics and is the perfect tone for a reboot. The hardcover edition has a sturdy matt black cover under the dust jacket with plain embossing on the front and spine. There is the original concept art for many of the characters with extensive notation and all the covers, both variant and reprints, as well as various stages of the cover creation. Each of the issue covers also features the original pencil sketch too. There is a Star Laboratories employee dossier, an interview transcript with Captain Steve Trevor, and an introduction to a book titled The Secret History of Atlantis. All of this extra material sheds a little more light onto the JLA universe. There is also an epilogue concerning a bunch of unknown people that will presumably set up future storylines. It feels both unnecessary and inappropriate after the grand finale finish. It really detracts from the smooth flow of an otherwise perfect book.

Justice League - The Real Deal
This is my favourite book of all the New 52 volumes I've read so far. Perhaps I've been starstruck by all the big names hanging out together but it just seems so awesome. They're all there, all adding their own unique abilities and personalities to each situation. The stories hang and develop on each of these guys' particular whims. The writing for this is great, I've never felt that there was a singular voice pushing the plot forward. When Batman speaks it's Batman, it's calculating and cold. When Superman speaks you've got a sense of authority and purpose. Where Wonderwoman puts in her opinion its strong-willed and head strong. When Green Lantern speaks he does so only to ridicule Batman, no seriously he's cool and very much a hero but he's a great source of humour and levity and he plays that off with the Flash also. The story starts strong as well. If this were a computer game I'd say they drop in the Final Boss in the first level. It sets up a lot of what is to come and it's really strong. The only issue is perhaps they resolve this first volume evil a tad too quickly but I'm sure it's just a teaser of what's to come.

Good introduction to the Justice League for new folks, and experienced readers alike
New 52 gets a lot of stick from long-term DC fans, but I'm finding that the New 52 has really been a thoroughly enjoyable read so far. I'm a huge Superman and DC fan anyway so of course I'm a little biased, but if you like beautifully drawn artwork with a narrative certainly deserving of a DC publication; this is the book for you.
