WOW!!
So far so good. We have an 18x9 pool set up in our barn. It is hot right now in Oklahoma but the pool is not getting direct sunlight and the water was hanging around 82-84. I went out on a limb and bought 2 of these tankheaters to try and extend the kids swim season. I am not sure how long they will last or maintain a swim-able temperature but within the first 24 hours the water jumped from 83-90.

It works
We have had a tank heater like this for years. Our old heater finally quit (after 20+years). This new one is great. we have plenty of very cold days and nights 0 and below and the wind blows ALL the time. the water tank stays thawed and warm enough the horses drink plenty.

Bad product
This heater is not made to last. Bought it in Mar 2022 and used it a handful of times since we dont get too cold where I live. Took it out this year 2025 since temps are ecpected to be in low 30s. The heater wouldnt work. Opened the cover and saw it had shorted out. Replaced the connector and still doesn't work. Two years old and used maybe a handful of times and its not working. Bad product. Hope they made improvements.

Good Stuff
Installed this on a 12' rubber tire tank in South Dakota. I have seen temps as low as -20 F and this heater kept the tank from freezing. It works just fine!

Lowering my rating due to a defect
Update to my review: I opened the cover to adjust the thermostat and found a problem (see attached photos). When you get your tank heater, I suggest you open the cover and inspect the wiring. The wires in mine were not completely in the wire nut and had been touching the metal housing. The wire nut was melted. Original review: This was bigger than I expected and I had to make a bracket to attach it to my stock tank, but I'm happy with it so far. The temperature is adjustable. I didn't like that my smaller, drop in the water heater, would barely warm the water so that it would not freeze, but the water was still ice cold. With this one, the temperature of the water is slightly warm to the touch. I think the horses will drink more with the warmer temperature.

Keeps the trough water at a consistent warm temperature.
Great product that kept trough water quite warm. Prior to use the livestock didn’t drink a lot of water. After this heater was put in the water intake increased tremendously. I also notice that the horses tend to hang their heads over the water I assume to warm their faces. There is always steam coming off the water.

Only if you really need one this powerful.
It does keep the water from freezing, but hang onto your hats when your electric bill comes. Last year, our electric bill went up $100 a month (yes, you read that right) after we plugged this in. If we had a huge tank and no other choice, I guess I'd have kept using it. I never saw a drop of ice anywhere on the metal tank or in the water, even when the temps were bitterly cold. But, the cost of running it was a bit much for two horses. This year, we downsized our tank, put an insulated box around it and purchased a smaller heater. So far, so good.
