Good solution to drive Stepper Motors using GRBL
Everything you need to run GRBL. Does a fine job on my home built laser cutter. Good value for money.

works as it should
I bought this to make a two axis jig on which to mount screens, lenses and a camera module to simulate refraction of the human eye for an R&D project at work. It does what it needs to and I would buy it again. Great price so we can easily afford to keep a few spares just in case.

(z) end stop.
it appears this is an older version and while working with GRBL the pins for (z) end stop and spindle enable have been swapped round. took me ages to find this out so i thought i’d pass it on😁

Really poor quality
I bought this to build a CNC machine, however when it arrived it was in a bag, so very little protection against damaging the pins on the boards. The CNC shield had a block of foam covering the pins however this foam was full of solder splashes and component croppings. When I removed the foam the pins were all bent, every one had to be straightened. The Shield also had long component legs that hasn’t been cropped so we’re short circuiting to the pins on the arduino board underneath. The sockets on the arduino board were all out of line some sitting higher than others. All in all very disappointing. As I am an electronic engineer and have the right tools available I was able to fix these faults. I genuinely was disappointed in the product. I know it is cheap but that’s no excuse for poor quality.

Good BUT some small issues
Purchased to drive a modified Proxxon MF 70 mill#1 The clone V3 Uno board is good and functions as expected. The board has the ICSP header pins soldered on which contact the base of the shield board when it is fitted, some actually touch some of the end stop pads on the base of the shield. The ICSP header shouldn't have been fitted for this application so was removed.#2 The CNC shield has a few minor issues. The header pins are soldered and the joints are good but one set was about 5 degrees off of vertical and the other closer to 15 which required desoldering and refitting before use.Given this fail in very basic QA I went through the board and checked ALL of the joints just to be sure they were good. I don't think that this is something I should have to do but I suspect it would be a problem for some.# 8825 DriversAs yet untested but I am expecting at least one to fail on power up which is not unexpected, failure rate in unbranded steppers can be high. I may change these for a branded alternative that also supports X32 micro stepping.#Overall commentsGood value for the price, you could source all of the components for a similar price point but it would be difficult. You do get all you need to drive a small CNC system but you might want different stepper drivers depending on use.A power lead for the Uno is provided which is a nice touch. There is no provided documentation but this is readily available on the internet so a bit of a non-issue.Given that the steppers will get hot and really do need forced air cooling a small fan bundled in would have been nice.
