Building Writing Skills Sentences to Paragraphs

I teach special education students and these books help me tremendously when attempting accommodations.

I needed extra work on paragraphs for homeschooling my kids. But this isn’t a good fit.

As I said about Words to Sentences, teaching writing is a tricky process. I have 7 students who have a pretty decent grasp of how to write sentences. So I decided they were ready to learn to write paragraphs. This book does not have worksheets to copy for the students. Instead,there are teacher guided activities that help the students learn the concepts involved in paragraph development. For example, there's a really good activity that helps them write topic sentences for a paragraph. Learning to write good topic sentences is one of the most difficult parts of paragraph writing but I found their method to be practical and easy for the students to understand. Their paragraphs turned out pretty good. The activity is near the beginning of the book so they still have a ways to go, but so far they're off to a good start.

I bought this for a student I was tutoring. It was ok… but I have seen better. He was a 3rd grader but learning English. He was struggling a lot with putting sentences together. I was hoping it would have a little more grammar in it than lessons and writing prompts. Might be better for a beginning 1st or 2nd grade teacher who wants to save time on lesson prep.
