Summer and Winter Plus: The Best of Weaver's (Best of Weaver's series) Paperback – September 1, 2010

Though this book is filled with terrific eye candy and simply gorgeous wovens, it is only truly designed for the advanced weaver. There is no basic explanation for reading charts and patterns. Also, most patterns require a 16 shaft loom, which many hobbyists will not have.I gave the book to a friend that is an excellent weaver. The gift was appreciated greatly.

This book contains more than forty great projects to make using tied weaves (weaves where tabby warps and wefts alternate with pattern yarns to hold fabric together, while allowing colorful pattern yarns to create designs and textures). A tutorial is included to walk the weaver through the design and structure of these fabrics. As usual, Madelyn van der Hoogt selects the best project examples, and Alexis Xenakis provides the best photographs to capture both completed projects and close-ups that show yarn interactions. Very disappointing book. I so looked forward to exploring Summer & Winter as well as discovering a few new S&W drafts. The projects were homely and impractical and there seemed to be more "woven as if s&w" than s&w projects. Quite a letdown. Feel as if I wasted $28 dollars. Had I had a chance to leaf through it beforehand, I would not have bought it. That said, Weaver's "Overshot Is Hot" is a wonderful "best of," as is "Twill Thrills."

I'm an intermediate weaver and had trouble understanding the directions in the book, most of the directions are abbreviated and shortened and you have to have insider knowledge to figure them out. You also need a large loom with more than 8 shafts for most of the projects, so unless you have one the book is not useful.

The technique taught in this book is one of my favorite weave structures. I was thrilled to find a book entirely devoted to the subject. The Best of Weaver's series of books are very informative. You will not be disappointed with this book.

This entire series of books is awesome!

I was a little disappointed that there were not that many drafts in this that I immediately wanted to weave, - but maybe that's because I have loved all the other books in this series, so I had very high expectations. I'll give it more time to peruse it though.

Lovely book but not enough 4 shaft patterns.

Seht seht schon aus, aber ich habe noch nicht geweben , weil ich auch ein cursus folgen und nicht zu viel Zeit habe. Später soll ich anfangen ze weben.

すてきな作品ばかりです。ＲＯＳＥの花を織りだす図案なんて、もう見とれるばかり。しかし。すごいハイレベル。ＳＵＭＭＥＲ＆ＷＩＮＴＥＲの技法を理解して、オーバーショットの踏み順も間違えずに織れます！という、中・上級者向けです。しかも、４枚綜絖の作品は、２，３点あったかな…？って感じで。最低６枚綜絖、８枚はふつう、１０〜１６枚綜絖の作品も、続々。多綜絖機を持っていて、複雑な織りが好きな方には、おススメ。４枚綜絖機の方には、目を楽しませるには、すごくいいと思いますけど、実用的ではない…かも。すてきな本なんですけどねー。
