Packaging nullifies the compostable diaper!
Full disclosure, I haven’t even used the diapers yet but I can already say I will not be ordering them again.I purchased these diapers purposefully, to avoid plastic in the landfill. I cloth diapered both my children but my 3 yr old is still not fully night time potty trained and I didn’t want to upgrade to the next size up cloth diaper for just the occasional nighttime wetting.I was so excited that these diapers are 100% compostable, unlike other more environmentally friendly versions that are unable to make this claim. Then I received them, and they were wrapped in not just one plastic layer but two plastic layers! One outside the Broody Chick box and one inside to hold the diapers. And neither layer of plastic is labeled with a recyclable symbol, so into the landfill they go.What is the point of making a diaper that is compostable when your packaging undoes all the good!

and smell - especially if you attempt to use them like a Huggies
There's no question concerning these diapers performance compared to the ubiquitous gel-lined, dyed and fragrance-coated varieties (including many that claim to be more sustainable in some way): they don't compare. Broody Chick diapers can leak, blow out, and smell - especially if you attempt to use them like a Huggies! However, if you are looking for something you can feel absolutely safe about putting against your baby's most delicate parts and then bury in your backyard afterwards, these are for you! We use primarily cloth diapers and supplement with Broody Chick. Paired with a good zinc based diaper cream, they've knocked back quite a few diaper rashes over 8-12 hours. They do effectively wick moisture away from baby's skin, just not super natural quantities. They're also great for traveling.

Much Better than Expected!
I purchased these after reading review after review of "eco friendly" disposable baby diapers. I have only used cloth diapers but I was preparing for a four day trip in the car and I did not want to hassle with washing machines, at the home we were going to, as I had a bad experience previously with an ill equipped washing machine. I was thoroughly impressed with the quality, texture and absorbancy of these diapers! I also loved that they are 100% biodegradable unlike 7th generation which is what I looked into buying initially. I was concerned about irritation and fit but they worked great! Also, some stated something about not being able to move the sticky tab once they were in place but I found this not to be true. I moved the tab a couple of times when I did not fit the diaper on adequately(wiggle worm baby). These diapers surpassed my expectations and I still have plenty for the next road trip! :)

Too large for my newborn
I really wanted to like these, but I haven't been able to use these yet. My little one is 5 weeks old, and when i put her in them they are huge on her! She is on the small side, still in newborn clothes and about 7.5 pounds, but they are just far too large. I will update the review when she grows into them.

The only disposable diapers worth buying!
After doing a lot of research into diapers (Being an engineer, I even did a life-cycle cost analysis on them, including cloth diapers.), I found that, barring cloth diapers, these are the most environmentally friendly diapers out there -- and possibly the most baby-friendly. They are very absorbent and quite an excellent choice overall. One of the most environmentally unfriendly things one can do is to have a baby. But besides that non-starter for us, and faced with the hassle of cloth diapers, these were a perfect compromise. Personally, I could not live with myself for contributing so much environmentally-detrimental diapers to a landfill -- diapers that stay intact for 500 years or more! These diapers are compostable and have natural components (or as natural as one can make them while still retaining essential usefulness properties). They cost a little more -- but by God -- is it really worth it if those diapers in the landfill are still around when your grandkids' grandkids are long gone?!?The only small negative I could determine was that they are a little too big for a newborn, and we ended up using Pampers for the first 3 weeks or so. :( In retrospect, we probably should have used cloth diapers for the first few weeks.

AWESOME Diapers!
I have been using primarily cloth diapers for our newborn, but have been using these for outings, and have been pleasantly surprised at the quality and leak prevention, considering they are so good for the environment. The do run very large- so even when our son was 6 1/2 pounds, the diapers looked ridiculously huge on him, so I would fold over about 1 1/2 inches in the front, to make them look more reasonable. Now that he weighs 9 1/2 pounds, I would say they finally fit perfectly. I do wish they were more reasonably priced, but as with most things you get what you pay for. We are also going to try the Nature Baby-Care brand, so we have something to compare them to- and that are much less expensive- $.18 vs $.50 per diaper. I am assuming they won't be as good. but after reading many of the reviews, I am willing to try them. I will update my review once I have a better understanding of the differences.

Safe diaper, but could use some softness
I love the fact that these diapers are without chemicals and that they are 100% natural and fully compostable--these reasons alone lead me to pay more than I normally would for diapers and never really feel guilty about the money spent. After all, they're going on my baby's tushie, and I don't want him to be exposed to anything he shouldn't be. However, the thing that made me stop buying them is that they're just not soft enough. My son would scratch and pull at the top of the diaper until his skin was red, and I could tell it was because he didn't like the way they felt against his skin. I had to switch to another eco-friendly diaper that was more comfortable for him.
