Postal services began in the first half of the 17th century serving the first American colonies; today, the United States Postal Service is a large government organization providing a wide range of services across the United States and its territories abroad.[4] In the American colonies, informal independently run postal routes began in Boston as early as 1639, with Boston to New York City service starting in 1672.[citation needed] Officially sanctioned mail service began in 1692 when King William III granted to an English nobleman a delivery "patent" that included the exclusive right to establish and collect a formal postal tax on official documents of all kinds. (Years later, taxation implemented through the mandatory purchase of stamps was an issue that helped to spark the American Revolution.) The tax was repealed a year later, and very few were ever actually used in the thirteen colonies, but they saw service in Canada and the British Caribbean islands.[5] In the years leading up to the American Revolution mail routes among the colonies existed along the few roads between Boston, New York and Philadelphia. In the middle 18th century, individuals like Benjamin Franklin and William Goddard were the colonial postmasters who managed the mails then and were the general architects of a postal system that started out as an alternative to the Crown Post (the colonial mail system then) which was now becoming more distrusted as the American Revolution drew near.[citation needed] The postal system that Franklin and Goddard forged out of the American Revolution became the standard for the new U.S. Post Office and is a system whose basic designs are still used in the United States Postal Service today. Review: Will buy again - Great selection! Not many stamps newer than the 80s. Lots of nice back of book stamps too! Definitely not many of the nasty horrible self adhesive forever stamps. A few damaged stamps, but not many. There was also 3 foreign stamps. Have filled many blank spots in the album and have hardly dented the pile. Awesome product. Will buy again! Review: Variety of stamps - Too many duplicates

Don't cringe...
I'm probably about to make stamp collectors cringe, but I ordered these for journaling decoration. But I do like stamps and I know that they show significant times in our history and I always liked collecting things. These are very nice and some of these I have seen before in my life time at my grandma's house. I found one that was posted in 1961. There are a ton of duplicates or so it seems, it's hard to go through 1000+ stamps, but I had quite a variety of U.S flag stamps and noticed that some were still connecting, which probably indicate someone had to put more than one stamp on the envelop when mailing. I've received some that had to be carefully cut from envelops and surprisingly there was one in here that is still listed for sale of USPS website "Navajo Jewelry" (I don't mind because I wanted one, and now I have it) oh, and found "Silver Coffeepot" which I just recently purchased from USPS. I love the variety of this...for my purposes, I like the duplicates and the originality of how they were used, the ones that were still attached remained attached. This is a part of history. I also received four stamps in a little envelop, not sure if important but seems like it.

Very pleased with the variety of stamps that came with this. If you are looking to fill holes in your collection or need a starter kit for someone just getting into US Stamps, this is the item for you.

Deplorable condition
These stamps HAVE BEEN VIEWED AND THE GOOD ONES REMOVED. The backs are not all cleaned off and the ones that are were left in deplorable condition. Bent, heavy cancellation black lines, torn, or mutilated in one way or another. Horrible condition, do not waste your money on these stamps. Most of them belonged to someone who rejected them already. Go to Hobby Lobby and get some stamps and learn how to remove them from backing properly. Ugh!!!
