Colonial Times: Short Nonfiction for American History (Toolkit Texts) Illustrated Edition

I don't have the complete Toolkit, just a couple of the ancillary pieces (I am having to buy these as a teacher out of pocket). I was hopeful about this being a useful addition to my collection. Wow. I am completely blown away. There are 45 articles, yes, but they are long, well-written, and provide markedly much in which to delve. If you are looking for content-rich passages to support your ELA block, never mind your social studies instruction, this is the bomb. If you want SS, too, like I need, whoa. Excellent resource!

Wonderful resource for a fifth grade class

Perfect for a 5th grade classroom! This has a wealth of terrific nonfiction all in one neatly organized tome.

I think the articles in this book are great for teaching 5th grade Social Studies. I think the lessons that are explained are also very good. I do not like the organization of the book. I find that I am constantly flipping back an forth between articles and what lessons would match up best to the article. I would like a quick notation on each article page which lessons would work best with that particular article.
