Mortar Raking Diamond Bit for Mortar Removal (5/16 inch x 1 inch)

We do foundation repair and recently started tuck pointing brick after repairs. We have used a tuck pointing grinder blade for horizontal joints, but it was always a pain on the vertical joints. We used this thing for the first time on our vertical joints and I will never go back. For those complaining about the price, I don't know what to tell you. I don't know how long it will last, but I will say you should just use it on vertical joints to get the longest life out of it. If it only lasts one job, it is still money well spent for us. We use a milwaukee cordless grinder.

This product fit well on my grinder and had a convenient flat edged section for loosening with a wrench. It cut through mortar well. I used it to grind out the vertical brick joints. However, it took very little time for the bit to dull. Within at most a few minutes, I was already having to put my weight into the tool for it to perform well. I know that some mortars are harder than others, so it’s possible that the mortar in my home was hard. Regardless, I would have expected this to last longer.I would use this again, but not for the price. If it cost 1/3 the price, I wouldn’t mind using for another project.Picture shows the first one I used and how far worn down the but got compared to a new one.

So glad I didn't listen to the bad reviews. This thing was expensive, but it probably saved me 2 hours of work and cleaned my brick joints much better than I could do with a chisel. Makes quick work of removing old loose and cracked mortar. Chews through it like a hot knife through butter. The only way I could see breaking this if if you tried to put too much force on it. If your mortar is so hard that it is creating resistance, then it probably doesn't need to be re-tuck pointed.

Very poor quality and durability. I had planned on using this to clean out the corners of mortar on block that I was tuck pointing. It only lasted about 5 corners and was totally worn out. Definitely not worth the money.

I recently bought a house that had a long crack in the mortar on one side of the house. This made quick work of clearing the cracked mortar so I could repoint it. Definitely recommend it. My only regret is I didn't buy the longer one too.

Works very well for soft mortar, but not for newer repairs.

Did a great job of raking out old mortar. Chews through it pretty easy. Wear a mask & goggles. It leaves a mess, as you'd expect.
