no problems with eSata cable. works in linux
I had no problems getting the eSata cable securely connected. I did a lot of research to find a product that would fit a 12.5mm 1TB drive. Several reviewers on other sites mentioned it did not fit 12.5mm drives, but mine fit well. Specifications only mention support for windows and mac but Ubuntu 12.04 mounted instantly. No complaints, does everything I need it to and for a great price.

NexStar CX External HDD eSATA & USB 2.0
I bought this when I was in need of a drive for my 1TB Toshiba HDD. I didn't want to spend the money on a cheap drive and risk it burning out my drive, so I invested a bit more than one would want. For $20, I would say it looked pretty good when I first saw it.The shipping was fast, I ordered it in the beginning of the week and received it today. It fir my bulky 2.5" drive pretty well, assembly was easy. It had an instruction booklet (which is pretty much a piece of paper folded up a couple of times), and when I fired it up it went pretty well. Now, the reason why I gave it only 4 stars and not 5 is because it came with just the eSATA cord and not a powered eSATA cord. I may just expect more, but in order to use the eSATA, you have to plug in the USB and THEN you can plug in the eSATA. That was a disappointment. I tested the speeds between the eSATA and the USB 2.0. First was the USB, I took a 1.4 GB video off of it. Took about 6 seconds. Then I plugged in the eSATA. It took about 14 seconds WITH the USB and eSATA plugged in. I had a "Shared eSATA Cable for 2.5" SATA Laptop Hard Drive" that was $12, and when I used that on the HDD it took less than a second to do.I will admit, the enclosure is pretty nice. It's clean-looking, fits my drive well, I can use it without hassle, and it doesn't overheat my drive. So, if you feel like getting a drive that does all these for you, then I would say it was a good buy.

Best Enclosures
Vantec has consistently made good products. I've been buying their enclosures for several years now. I got this because of the eSATA port. It works well and hasn't had any issues. Fast transfer speeds over USB 2.0 and faster still over eSATA.

So far so good
I wanted this to upgrade my Motorola COX DVR. The thing currently has a 160gb drive and cox doesn't offer an upgrade.Had a 750gb laptop drive laying around (though it is a current-generation drive), and decided to give the NST-200SU-BK a try.Worked like a charm. Others have complained about not being able to get the esata cable in, so there might be some QC issues at the factory. i might be one of the lucky ones because it worked like a charm.i have USB plugged in directly to the wall for power (as required when using eSATA)the other esata port from the drive directly into my COX DVR/Cable box.within seconds it found it and asked if i wanted to format, i did. and have been recording just fine now.The only problem i faced (which isn't a problem.. it should be designed like this)is in a very dark room, the blue light is very bright. i had to cover it up with a tiny piece of gaffers tape so when my dvr is using the drive it doesn't light up my room blue =)so far so good. Not sure if i can depend on this ting to last.... hopefully!

I only gave it 2 stars because it didn't work for me but that is my fault. I needed one with a power cord.

Problems with some esata cables
Works, but the way the case is designed won't allow many esata cables to connect properly. I was forced to cut some of the plastic away from my cable in order for it to insert completely. Otherwise, works exactly as advertised. Easy to set up, and feels very solid.
