White Girl Problems

"She just gets it"
Whether Babe Walker is real or not was the last decision I had on my mind after reading White Girl Problems. She does't claim to have the cure for us Husky girls who know they can't attend a sample sale for Alexander McQueen... like that would ever happen. But it's a story that is still growing. Give the girl some credit! She has gone though her own issues, and quite gracefully for the most part. After reading this book, I feel confident that we would slay in a game "Never Have I Ever". Babe is realistic in telling her stories, whether they happened or not. I think this is a character I would be friends with. I would how grocery shopping, and split up the groceries. Veggies and fun ice cube trays for her... actual food for me.Regardless, I recommend this book to any girl in her mid-late twenties who needs a laugh and a coupe of life lessons as seen through the eyes of someone who could financially afford to make them right in the end. It's very Jennifer Lancaster-esque for those of us who feel we are too young to connect over a husband and a home. But it's Walker...telling a story about what happens before you get there...or a fantasy novel for those who don't think they ever want to get there.I found myself laughing out loud plenty of times at the easygoingness of Babe Walker. She says the things I want to say, gets the boy or "boy" she wants so effortlessly all by just being herself. She doesn't change who she is at any point, she simply grows up a little. I usually read memoirs or celebrity biographies, and this is by far one of the best books I have read in a while. If you did not laugh while reading this book, you might want to check with someone because you may not know how to read.I hope to see more from Babe Walker! PS - The sketches in the book - Brilliant! I loved each one and might frame them.

I make it a point to read this twice yearly.
I don't know how I lived my life before WGP. Luckily for me, I never miss what I don't have. So, I just walked around thinking I was the only white girl on the planet with real issues. I knew this book resonated with my soul by the time I reached the table of contents -Problem #1: All I want for my birthday is for you to know what I want for my birthday without me having to tell you. I re-read the line to make sure I didn't accidentally pick up my diary - Like, GET OUT OF MY HEAD, BABE! I remember thinking "Wow, I can't think of a bigger insult than having to tell my "friends" and "family" what I want in celebration of my life" so that was a very powerful moment for me. The feeling matched that of a prisoner being set free to finally live the life they were destined to live. I was not alone.I would recommend this book to anyone seeking a higher sense of self. This book has opened my mind to the theory that there are people, other than me, living life everyday. It has also confirmed that the psychos who wrote this - Tanner Cohen, David Oliver Cohen and Lara Schoenhals - stalked my life to get the material.Seriously though, it's a great read. Very obscene. Does not lack in raunchy, life-like situations that I have, regrettably, found myself involved in. This is definitely one of the most offensive books I have come across and that's why I love it. If you are sensitive to, or don't find humor in, feminism, racism, addiction etc. don't read it. I am just amazed at the negative reviews on this book -- surely, a person doesn't pick up a book titled "White Girl Problems" looking to find intellectual writings on the day-in-the-life experiences of a coming of age woman in the 2000's. If you were, I can definitely see why you'd be disappointed with your misused 13 dollars. And that sounds like a #whitegirlproblem to me.Byeee

FYI: Babe Walker isn't a real person
Babe Walker is a fictional character created in collaboration by three authors. To read the full article from The Daily Beast, google "daily beast babe walker". I tried to post the link here, but amazon edited it out. When I ordered this book, I thought it was a NON-fiction memoir by a socialite. Oops. The stories became harder and harder to believe, until I did some research and discovered that "Babe Walker" isn't real. The highlight of the book for me was Babe's alter-ego Babette. Babette is written about in the third person, whereas the rest of the book is written by "Babe" in the first person. Babette is simply the crazy person Babe becomes in a relationship when she falls in love - saying and doing crazy things and being unable to stop herself. She is crazy passive aggressive, usually via text message. Babette also dresses horribly, in contrast to Babe's impeccable fashion sense.I think I would have enjoyed this book more if I had known from the get-go that Babe Walker wasn't real. It's hard to tell from the cover! Babe is the author and there is a photo of her (well, the back of her head) on the back cover.PS This book is a fast read.

Fun, flirty read!
White Girl Problems was a cute and easy read. The book was written as a memoir by Babe about her struggle growing up in Bel Air. I loved that she told about the hardships she faced with total seriousness even though the problems were ridiculous, and as her therapist said, were ones only a rich white girl could have. Each chapter focused on a different catastrophe: failed extravagant birthday parties, relationship challenges with her gay best friend, and getting kicked out of several colleges due to parking issues and wardrobe lies. Babe was a self-centered stock character for most of the book, but it was that materialistic and self-absorbed view that made her observations so endearing. I especially appreciated all the drawings in the book of the outfits Babe wore to the events she attended. This was a light read that I really enjoyed! Please read more of my reviews by following me on twitter, @dana_heyde, or subscribing to my blog, http://fastpageturner.wordpress.com

Fantastic Read
Loved this book so much, hilarious all the way through and will take you on a rollercoaster of emotions. I couldn't put it down, I found it that good! Full of various cringe-worthy, emotional and captivating moments, I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys light-hearted comedy. There are some parts that are quite sexual though so I would say that anyone who's buying this as a gift for someone should take into account the age and maturity of the person reading it. Apart from that, it definitely has a place on my favourite books list!!
