YPA M1-C4S LAVALIER Clip ON Cardioid Microphone Compatible with Shure Radio MIC

I own multiple wireless units as I do location video work. I needed to add some lavs to our kit and tried this mic. It is unusable for any on-person application. The directional pattern attenuates so many key frequencies in the voice range that the only placement we found that was usable for this mic was to have the talent hold the mic in front of their mouth. Due to the directional roll off, we found it worked when attached to sources we needed to capture - for example it worked reasonably well clipped to the bridge of a mandolin. In summary not for voice applications at all.

this is still working. the wires on the old one have broken because they are too thin and break too easily. hope this lasts longer.

The connector is perfectly compatible with Shure. The clip is great.YPA makes fantastic products, but this one really misses the mark on sound quality.The cardioid pattern on this mic does an excellent job of rejecting off-axis sounds, so just my voice is picked up. That is the main purpose for which I bought the mic, but it’s pretty much unusable to me because of how thin the tone is.I own one of their omnidirectional lavs, and it sounds glorious. Full and rich tone with detail and a sweet midrange, requiring little eq.The way they engineered this cardioid version throws away all they accomplished with the sound of the omni lav.I believe the trouble in the tone of this mic stems from the addition of the rear phase delay ports that make it cardioid. Their placement/size/shape produce a thin, hollow, distant tone that cannot just be eq’d to sound better.This mic is a dud, for me. It’s just not good enough for what I use lapel mics for. Too bad, too. I really wanted to love it, like I do my other YPA mics.

Bought this lapel mic for our minister at our church. I like the YPA MM1-C4S better as it seems to have a better tone quality to it. This one seems to be missing lower frequencies. Overall, it works great for the money, has great sensitivity. Just had to mess with the eq to bring it up to a good sound.

Needed a new mic quick, got this one, but the quality could be a little better; but it works fine and does the job.

Surprisingly good for the price. They are a little more sensitive to noise from clothing than I would like but careful positioning reduces this to a minimum.

I used the mic just once so far, with a similar, but more expensive Shure. For my uses, this is a very competent alternative. And most performers wouldn't notice the slight difference. My pair arrived well packed, and very quickly - within a couple of days. Excellent produce and service.
