Well built box
I designed a fresh air circulation system to bring in cool air into my wine cellar and needed a small box with a large duct. I'm using this to go through walls, versus ceiling since the ceiling in my wine cellar is not accessible. This box worked perfectly. It's very sturdy and consequently, I was able to mount it to the wall and then my duct fan directly to this box which provided plenty of support. I drilled 3 started holed in each flange which I used (with ample silicon caulking) to mount the box to the interior plywood surface of my exterior wall. The box takes 10 x 10 filters, which were not available at my local hardware store, but available on Amazon. I liked this box so much that I re-ordered for another project.

Worked Perfectly For What I Needed
Our house has a 6" air inlet in the unfinished basement, and a small fan upstairs (similar to a bathroom fan) that runs 24x7 and pulls fresh air into the house. The basement inlet was wide-open with nothing but a critter guard. Heavy construction behind our house is creating lots of dust and our allergies are going crazy, so I wanted to put a filter on the basement inlet.I bought some 10x10x1 filters, which are actually 9.5 x 9.5. The inside measurement of this unit is about 10.25 x 10.25, so the filter had about 3/8" gap on all sides. I found some self-adhering window weatherstripping in my shop, so I put that around the inside rim of the sheet metal, sealed the corner gaps with duct tape, and the filter snugs just perfectly into the bottom. Used sheet metal screws and sealed it onto the basement 6" vent pipe, and all is well. Hoping this helps our allergies out!

Nice for return vents
Bought 2 for a project of installing return vents in wall and ceiling. Worked great. Used hvac tape to seal it up better...the sealant it came with dried and left holes.

making an airtight connection and also sealing the fiberglass insulation from being sucked in. Looks a bit "rigged" but works perfectly
This ceiling box worked perfectly for my goal of adding a return air vent in a small equipment closet. Rather than using 6" flex duct as this box is intended for, I instead used 4" flex duct, which fit perfectly INSIDE the opening (including the insulation/outer foil jacket) instead of over it, securing it well around the outside and inside with Hardcast rolled mastic tape, making an airtight connection and also sealing the fiberglass insulation from being sucked in. Looks a bit "rigged" but works perfectly, as I didn't need the flow of 6" duct.
