An invaluable and wise contribution to the field of self development, spirituality, and the Law of Attraction.
This is one of the most important books I've ever read concerning how to prosper in life in every way. The principles of right thinking and feeling right about something can't be overemphasised enough, and Florence Scovel-Shinn gives plenty of anecdotes from her experiences with clients to illustrate her points. This lady is bursting with wisdom, some of which is not reiterated or emphasised enough by other authors on topics such as the Law Of Attraction. One of the things she emphasises is following one's intuition in order to follow divine clues which lead to your desired result, no matter how strange they seem to the rational mind, and the importance of being generous and giving freely or your time and money, as well as being open to receive. In other words, never let fear dictate your thoughts or actions as it will always lead to the wrong outcome, and to aim to embody your spirituality in your everyday life with right thinking or 'dharma' to keep yourself on the right track, thereby avoiding 'sin' or 'wrong thinking'.It's written in a religous style using the Judao-Chirstian God as a philosophical basis, with references to Biblical parables. But these certainly work as psychological and symbolic models of the principles in process, and illustrate the consequences of either following the correct path of love and right thinking or the wrong path of fear and wrong thinking, leading to 'evil' or negative outcomes. But if this doesn't sit well with you it's easy to mentally substitute these words for more contemporary secular versions of God or the Divine such as 'The Universe'. I found the style inoffensive and easy to understand, and didn't hinder the delivery of the message at all. There are many books of this nature still in print or on kindle, and they all say similar things about how to get what you want out of life, but this is the first of these older books I've come across (1925) that takes heed of the little details that can trip us up if we're not careful and why and how mistakes can be made that can prevent us from manifesting what we want. The answers are simple, really, but easy to overlook as we 'fall from grace' and forget who is really in control of everything - ourselves and our connection to God or the universe, not the world we see with all of it's dramas, gossip and pettiness we can lose ourselves in.I find it helpful to take written notes of important points that I feel I need to work on in my own life, and the format makes it easy to do so, as it's well written and concise rather than repetitive as so many of these books on the subject of manifesting are.I recommend that people read this book, and try to incorporate some of the principles in their lives. The world would be a better place if wisdom such as this was common sense!

Essential reading for those interested in the Law of Attraction.
I would say that this is one of the original works on the Law of Attraction, and I can definitely see the influence it has had no the writing of ‘The Secret’ by Ronda Byrne. Florence Shinn tends to refer to the Universe as God, or your inner Jesus Christ, or even the Divine Power, however, I feel that this is due to the style of writing and belief systems of the time. I also found that she manages to link the Bible and the teachings of Christ with the Law which, as someone interested in the juxtaposition of The Law and Christianity, I found comforting. The book is packed with examples of the working of the Lord (Law), and I found it to be hugely inspiring. Well written and engaging, if a touch ‘old fashioned’, I would recommend this book as essential reading for those interested in the Law of Attraction.

Changing your perspective can change your life
The book is basically about changing your perspective on life. if you can do that brilliant. We all have things we find hard and tough to deal with in life. The book encourage you to explore different ways pf thinking and approaching difficult task to make life easier. Thinking negatively and you'll attract negative situations. think positivity and you'll attract positive things.Bit on the religious side at times but either way the book promotes the same message either way.

Timeless
The Game of Life and How to Play It by Florence Scovel Shinn was originally published in 1975, yet remains timeless. It is full of philosophical reminders that speak to the part of us that knows we have the power to write our own lives here on earth. And has been added to my “must read often” and “life-changing” bookshelf. With such simplicity, Florence uses examples, and an energetic wisdom, to guide readers towards transforming our realities. From hardship, victim or pessimistic attitudes to abundant, triumphant and optimistic attitudes.I’ve seen the negative affects of living with a doubtful mind, and the great blessings that come with shifting to a more intuitively confident, and affirmative, state of being. Florence confirms that your strongest beliefs will be fulfilled. Life force responds to your intention, actions and beliefs, not words alone. We have to do more than just speak it. We must believe in ourselves and prepare for the things we want out of life.Alongside explanations of how important mindset is, Florence gives helpful examples of how to switch your verbiage (and now I have sticky notes around my room with my own personalised affirmations inspired by her style of expression). I don’t chant them repeatedly though, because she reminded me that if you truly believe in a thing, then you only ever need to affirm it once.

"If the good lord"..is mentioned once more, I shall move you closer to him
Far too many biblical quotes for my liking, but considering this book was first published in 1925, it's hardly suprising. I would normally be wanting a refund for this sort of book because there are some ridiculously false claims, such as bad thoughts can cause rheumatism! really? I think not. However, there is a certain charm about this book which made it interesting, hence the 3 stars. It's okay, but yet another in a long line of books about the law of attraction.Which gets me onto the point, why do they call it the LAW of attraction? like it's a scientific certainty, it's just a theory, surely.

I loved this book, I learned so much from it. I had never heard of this woman before but she's awesome, well before her time.
