House of Chess - Galaxy Staunton Wooden Chess Set Pieces King Size 3" Triple Weighted

I hand-made a portable folding chessboard for my son for his 40th birthday and wanted a quality set of pieces to go with it. This set is very well made, perfect size (the squares on the board were 1.5"), no visible defects and the weight was perfect. Highly recommended. I may buy more sets for chess boards I'm planning to build and sell in the future.

Upon receipt of the House of Chess 3" Rosewood Staunton Wooden Chess Set, I was very impressed with the quality and workmanship of the set. The set was shipped in a heavy-duty cardboard container. The pawns were each wrapped in miniature bubble wrap for protection, each of the other pieces was first wrapped in a sort of soft wrapping and then wrapped in the same type of miniature bubble wrap. This insured that the fine details of the larger pieces were adequately protected from damage during shipping. This was over and beyond what I have ever received with my other chess set orders over the past years. I was really impressed with the fine detail and quality of workmanship of each chess piece. The carving is nicely done and the finish of all the pieces is of high quality. The pieces are listed as being triple weighted and they certainly appear to be as stated, which adds a nice heft to each piece. Overall, I am very pleased with this set, and it will be prominently displayed along with my other chess sets collection. I would definitely recommend this chess set for the excellent workmanship and beautiful design. I would do business with this seller again.

Purchased this as a gift for my husband and he likes them a lot. The size is just right for his custom made board. He said they are sturdy but light and seems well made. Came well packaged and included a small cloth bag to store the pieces in .I would recommend this product.

I am very happy with this chess set. The pieces are very well made, sleek, and weighted perfectly. Personally I find the design elegant without being too boring or strange. I bought these pieces for my chess board. The squares on the board are 1.5 square inch and these pieces fit perfectly. The black pieces are a little darker and rose colored but it doesn't bother me. I have nothing bad to say about this chess set, it's beautiful. Comes with 2 extra queens and a little drawstring bag. The pieces seem very sturdy but I may even invest in a nice box just because I don't want them to get scuffed or break.

I'm sorry, but these pieces do not deserve the praise they are receiving - unless my shipment is an outlier. The pieces on appearance are nice, and the size is fine, but the major flaw is that they are not triple weighted as adverized. They are not weighted at all for that matter. These are just basic wooden, felt bottomed pieces with no heft whatsoever. Some people claim these pieces are as good as (or better) "$200 pieces." They aren't. Quite honestly, they aren't worth the $59 I paid for them. Live and learn, repack and return.

I got this awesome set to go with a leather chess board I made. It’s perfect because of the weight, craftsmanship, beautiful wood and excellent stain/finish. I picked this for all of the above reasons, and in particular I saw how the knights stand out because they are carved with more detail than similar sets in the $60 price range. To get that feature in other sets I realized I would have to pay another $100 or so. On top of all that, they arrived on time and were perfectly protected by the fitted foam padding. Do not believe any review that says these are not weighted or that “the varnish was still sticky after 6 months”.

Finally! I found a set to fit my medium size chessboard! The weighting is adequate, but hardly what I would call triple-weighted! They are just slightly heavier than the bare wood, and I don't think the pawns have any weights in them whatsoever. They just feel like featherweight pieces of wood. Also, one of the "black" Knights has a light side in a dark side. Fortunately not so light that he will be confused with "white", but bad enough that it should've been caught by quality control... oh, right… There is no quality control anymore these days. So, hardly perfect, but I doubt I will ever find anything to match the Ebony and ivory of the chessboard, so this will have to do.

These are awesome chess pieces made with beautiful hardwood, very well crafted, nicely weighted, and incredible value. I'm using them on a board with 1.5" squares and I think they are the perfect size for that. They came very well packaged, and shipping time from India was very good too, especially as it was over the holidays.

It is exactly as described and looks and feels great. the size and weight are proportional with heavier base for stability.

This is a solidly built and elegant chess set at a reasonable price. The pieces are weighted for additional stability, which also helps to maintain their uprightness when moved in a hurry. The service from House of Chess is exemplary - they delivered on time, and promptly replaced one of the pieces that had a slight defect to it. I would recommend this set to anyone who enjoys playing with a professional-style set.

Les pièces identiques d’une même couleur ont des poids qui varient peu (±1 g en général) ; mais en moyenne, les pièces noires pèsent environ 25 % plus lourd que les pièces blanches. Rien de bien grave à mon avis.

I got this set for my tournament no.5 chess board, and these look awesome! Although the pieces aren't portable, I don't think I will be using them on any other board. I received the package with a nice green felt bag for the pieces though! They are a great size, and overall quite happy with this purchase!
