I heard Ao(Blue Labeled) Hagane(steel) is excellent metal, but I have never sharpened the razor, nor objective criteria.
7/29/2016, updateI found that this is good knife. Just I had hard time because I did not know how to sharpening the knife..Osami Mizuike's website recommend to sharpening the knife in 4 to 1 ratio, which is 4 in front, plain side, and 1 in back, having name carved side(表8:裏2以下ぐらいで裏を研ぎます。http://www.ehamono.com/zakka/kamisori.html). I brought this knife to the barber shop, and the barber mentioned that .I had not sharpen this knife enough. So, I sharpened it with more time, and it started to catch all the flimsy hairs at that point. It is very satisfying knife, now because this knife became catchy, do not miss any hair, and knife sharpening is meditative. "Sharpness" is the virtue of males, and I feel male with this beautiful knife.6/9/2016There are three types of metal from Hitachi; Ou(Yellow) Hagane(steel) is mediocre; Hira(White) Hagane and Ao(Blue) Hagane(steel) are superior metal. And I heard this razor is made from Ao Hagane and Ji Hagane( Soft Metal) from Shave Mart; which is the excellent metal from Hitachi Metals. Ltd. I just have received the Okami straight razor, today. I read the review that this razor need to be sharpened. I sharpen with Sharpton 12000 and shaved my beard. I haven't neither sharpened nor shaved with the strait razor in my life before, so first shaving experience was a little bit rough. So, I gave three stars because I don't have object criteria. Through my research on Website Ao Hagane (Blue Labeled Steel) is very good steel, and this one is made of Ao Hagane. I assume the razor blacksmith, Osami Mizuike, did excellent work, because I researched his career, and this razor stamps his name on it; I can read Japanese language. However, my sharpening doesn't match his art. I wish I can meet someone who knows how to sharpen. So, if there are someone who is more knowledgeable about shaving or sharpening razor, E mail me, please.
