Great value pen!
I bought two pens the same day on Amazon. Plenty of choice for all budgets. And I picked this Hongdian as well as a Jinhao 95. This pen is well built, all metal parts with the exception of the converter, it feels a little heavy but nothing that would prevent anyone from having fun writing with it. It is easy to hold, though, for me, a bit too tiny on the nib section. It holds well in the hand. The writing experience is excellent. At first, the nib was a little scratchy on the paper, but I let the pen go back and forth by pressing gently on the paper for about 50 times and that was it, the nib now glides on paper really well. Of course, nothing to compare with a high-end nib, but you are getting 75% of the functionality at a fraction of the price. I's OK that the paper responds a little to the nib too. The nib is not stiff which is an issue with most Asean pen that require much precision when writing. It is a bit flexible so it responds to pressure a little. The pen color is wonderful and the nib matches the pen color. I was a bit worried of the paint on metal that would be fragile, but not with this guy, it's strong and won't scratch easily. I bring this pen at work and it is professional, not your average pen and yet modest so fits everywhere. Overall, a great buy and I am thinking about buying another one with a different color.

Better than Expected.
I got this on impulse! It's completely black, including the nib! All my pens in the past have light colored nibs. I'm crazy and don't like to see any traces of ink on the shiny nib. It just drives me nuts. So when I saw this, it's a dream come true! I can get all sort of ink on the nib and I won't be able to tell! Pros 1. It's completely black! What more do you need! 2. The logo on the body isn't flashy. Again being completely black has advantages. 3. Pen feels hefty in hand when not in use. My best comparison right now is the Hero 9296, it's heavier and bigger to the Hero. Other may not like it with the cap on during use, the cap add significant weight the pen. 3. Nib is smooth, glides across cheap copy paper without scratching. I washed it at night and put some Sailor Kiwaguro in it the next day and it was ready to go. 4. Great value. For $15, even if I don't like this, skip a few coffees, that's it. Con 1. The pistol converter feels very flimsy. The one I received seemed to have scratches on the clear plastic. It works, but be careful not to when holding. I really like it! I haven't own this long enough to comment on the paint but I got this for the black nib, I don't mind the paints every where else.

Amazing little pen!!
This is an amazing little pen!! It is easy to write with and the nib works right out of the box, no need for priming. I inked it up with Private Reserve Arabian Rose and it writes like a dream!! The "fine" nib is nice and smooth with no scratching or skipping. I highly recommend this pen and can't wait to order the other colors to add to my collection!!

Solid, durable, good writing pen.
This is a metal pen that is solidly built. It appears to have a very durable finish, but it does not detract from its appearance. I really like the color of this pen plus the added texture to the pen body. The cap is a push to close type and seems very secure. The clip is solid but perhaps a bit too tight. The pen posts if you like that although I find the cap a little heavy to do that. I got the bent nib option to try it out. It writes very smoothly. The pen uses a cartridge converter that came with the pen and it operates well. There is a noticeable step between the section and pen body that is a little larger than desirable. The pen is a bargain at around $15. I could see this pen being a daily writer.

Amazing pen for amazing price
I've used a Lamy Safari All-Star with a fine nib for years, and mostly liked it. It would sometimes feather or otherwise leave too thick of a line, but it's been reliable. On a whim, I picked up this pen in an extra fine nib, in the beige/silver color about a month ago. The weight of the pen is good, the look/feel is okay for the price. The converter sits snugly into body of the pen, but was a bit harder to fill than I'm used to with my Safari. I felt like I had to put the pen far too deep into the ink to get it to draw, but once I did, it filled just fine. I'm using Noodler's Bulletproof Black ink, and this thing writes wonderfully. Smooth black lines with no feathering, no glooping, and impressive accuracy for a pen in this price range. I usually have very small, tight handwriting, and this thing is like a dream for making my handwriting legible. It doesn't leak at all, and it doesn't dry out, either. I've left it capped and sitting for over a week, and couldn't tell any time had passed when I picked it up again. I find myself reaching for this pen for just about everything - paying bills, writing notes, drawing up plans for my workshop, journaling, you name it. It's just fun to write with and it works. As a side-note, I'm left handed, and some fountain pens expect you to write at a certain angle, which can be annoying for leftys. I've not had that problem at all with this pen. It's simple to orient and just write.

great performance for the price
good flow, not too heavy or light, doesn't saturate the page when writing very small characters, while at the same time will keep up when scribbling a very fast signature. REALLY liking the appearance and the comfort of it being skinny, and at the same time it somehow survived a trip through the washer and dryer (whoops). convenient that it came with a screw piston converter, it DOES leak a tiny bit from the converter because it's a push-in and not a threaded, but the body is threaded onto the nib holder with really fine threads that hold tightly, so that hasn't really caused any negative. I've had a day or two where i accidentally left it in my car's cupholder out in the sun for the day and the ink dried up, but it was easy enough to clear out and clean/refill by pulling and pushing hot water through the nib using the converter. can't speak for archival ink, i use water soluble, but I've done the same with archival ink with a cross bailey and had the same results, just soak whatever in a cup of hot water for a while to loosen thing up, run it under hot water to get it flowing, shake it to clear it out then refill and keep writing. high quality for the price tag

It’s a Stunner!
I’m guessing as to durability since I’ve had this a very short time. But with over a hundred other pens around here I can judge a new contender pretty well. This one is stunningly smooth...if you want smooth...since some folks want a bit of feedback. The flow is also just exactly right. Nice! Then there’s the fit and finish...way, way above the price point. I’m very impressed and went back and ordered the XFine. Loaded up with Noodlers Walnut ink mine is performing brilliantly. Delivered in a day for under $13...this is a stunner folks. Edit 1: the above is for the Fine...this is for the Xtra Fine: same thoughts re the physical aspects of the pen. In terms of writing, as you would expect from an extra fine there’s a lot more feedback than with the fine. I need to flush this one again with one drop of Dawn in a cup of water to see if I can improve the feed that way. If not I’ll get to work on the nib with a shim. It’s not where I want it to be yet. Guys...if you have a pen that doesn’t flow well, don’t blame the pen. Just adjust the spread on the tines or make sure nothing is blocking the feed, etc. Lots of tutorials online re adjustment. Take responsibility instead of just bitching about it.

ok for the price, but doesn't write smoothly
when you write slow it is ok, but when you write at a normal speed, the ink comes out inconsistency. The line gets broken when you write fast. Sometimes when you write signature, the consistency is lost. It is ok for the price. Nice and heavy, and I like the click sound when you close the cap. EF is really F. I personally like Kakuno much better than this one. If it writes smooth, this can be a good fountain pen, but after 2 years of use, I find myself not really using this fountain pen.
