This is a beautiful handmade shaving kit turned from a piece of Desert Ironwood originating in Southwestern United States and Northwestern Mexico. The heartwood color ranges from an orangish yellow to a darker red or brown, with darker violet to black streaks. Some pieces may be almost entirely black. It is very difficult to work on account of its density. Desert Ironwood is usually restricted to very small projects, though it takes a good natural polish and is very stable in service. The small size of the tree-in combination with its restricted distribution and relative rarity-means that Desert Ironwood is in scarce supply. The finish on all the wood in this kit consist of an initial flood coat of thinned sanding sealer so it soaks deep into the grain, followed by an additional coat once cured. The next six coats are a premium wood finishing CA (cyanoacrylate) super glue. These very important coats are extremely hard and protect the wood from day to day use in addition to progressively bringing the piece to a very smooth surface in preparation for the final finish. The final 2 coats of a shop made friction shellac polish are applied and buffed at a high speed to bring the piece to that beautiful sheen that will catch anyone's eye. The kit includes the stand, safety razor,and premium badger hair brush for the perfect shave everyday. The timeless look and feel of a double edge safety razor gives you a superior shave at a fraction of the cost of your typical razors. The blades can be found just about anywhere and on average only cost about $0.01 each. The brush is also easily replaced as the entire assembly simply screws apart and a new brush can be screwed back in.
