The "Band Buster" line release is oneof the simplest line releases you could ask to use. Also, it is very popular because it signals when a fish strikes, by transmitting the action to the rod tip, making the rod tip bounce. This release has been designed so that it won't abbrate your fishing line. It tracks straight through the water and will not tangle your fishing line.

Beats mechanical releases hands down!
These came with a set of Big Jon downriggers I purchased and I love them. I Had a downrigger cable break off at the termination so I lost my clip, band buster, and ball to the deep. I considered replacing it with a mechanical release, but it's just so simple. Wrap the band around the line, hook it on the release and you're fishing! I especially like the rod reaction to a hit, especially with a smaller fish. The rod will bounce around when a fish strikes, so you know something is happening. Many times we'll see the rod start to dance and be ready to go when the band releases.NOTE: if you use braid, you need to put a loop in the braid and fasten the band through the loop or it will slide. I just wrap the line twice over two fingers an then slide the band between my fingers to attach it. The loop usually breaks the band off of the line while you're fighting the fish.

Salmon, Steelhead and more!
This is one of the simplest downrigger releases on the market to use. I have used it for king Salmon and Steelhead on the big water rivers in the pacific northwest with good results. I have also used it in the high mountains lakes when fishing for Kokanee salmon (Sockeye salmon) with very good results. All you need to do is change the rubber band size based on the size of fish you are after. This release is well made and well worth the price.
