The Sniper and the Wolf
This is by far the stand-out entry in the "Sniper Elite" series; also one of my personal favorite military action novels. of all time. The entire series is immensely entertaining and has a very distinctive flare to the writing and characters, which sets it apart from others. The stories are both over the top but also grounded in reality. The writing is swift and snappy. The dialogue is witty and feels real. The characters are quirky and well-drawn with shades of moral ambiguity. Gil Shannon, a former navy SEAL sniper turned CIA asset, feels far more real and believable and is far more engaging than so many other similar protagonists in the genre. Any page that features him is a pleasure to read.In "The Sniper and the Wolf", Gil is on the hunt for a former Russian Army sniper turned Chechen jihadist commander. This mission will eventually see Gil partner with a Russian operator, take on a competent and well-trained foe across Europe, rescue sex slaves in Turkey, meet Putin in Moscow, and take part in a spetsnaz mission as the story culminates in a massive battle in the Caucasus against a small terrorist army.Meanwhile, a secondary subplot with the series' other key character, former Delta operator Daniel Crosswhite, who is a bit more abrasive and rough around the edges than Gil, involves political maneuverings and conspiracies within the CIA.i'm not sure why this series appears to be on hiatus, but it's very disappointing, and I hope the authors will come back to it. Regardless, this book can be read on its own and is a must read for any fan of this type of book.

GREAT Action-Packed Novel with All the Action and Excitement
Scott McEwen has begun to enter the circle with today's best terrorism writers, including Ted Bell and Vince Flynn. This newest release is taking the series to another level with this masterpiece series and specifically with this single book installment of this book in this set. This novel is one book in a collective, ongoing set that details the exploits of an anti-terrorism team fighting terrorism on multiple fronts all around the world. The book is part of an action-packed series by which the main character(s) work together to fight terrorists attempting to cause global mayhem and mass murder all over the globe. Using a unique knowledge of tradecraft, history, tactics, technique, inside information, amazing resources, and first-hand knowledge of the actions in question, Scott McEwen is able to tell a tremendous story that sucks readers in and doesn't let them go. Once you start reading, the book will not be put down until you are done with the novel and reaching for the next book in the series.Scott McEwen has been around a while writing novels, but until now has been one of many. However, with this newest release, he has now transformed into a truly MASTERCLASS writer with ALL the goods.I HIGHLY recommend this book AND this series to EVERYONE!

Fast paced thriller, easy read
Gripping, fast paced, and fun. I read half the book in one sitting, realized hours had passed and I wanted to keep going. This is book 3 of the series, however I had not read the first 2, but cannot wait to go back. It is written with a light but realistic premise and reads like a fast paced clancy novel without all the in depth technical background. I particularly liked the immediate chemistry of the characters and the banter between them.

Master Chief Shannon In A Winner Take All Sniper Duel...
The Sniper and the Wolf opens with Gil Shannon in Paris ready to take out a terrorist when he is engaged by another sniper in what quickly becomes a battle of skill and wits that runs throughout the course of this fast paced thriller. Another sub plot of this book involves rogue C.I.A. agents trying to take out Bob Pope who in turn unleashes ex-delta operator Daniel Crosswhite on their unfortunate asses. While Shannon is engaged in Malta and the Caucasus he is aided by Ivan Dragunov and Spetnatz operators all working toward the same goal. One of the best scenes in the book involves Spetznatz and Cechens in a running gunfight in the Caucasus Mountains.Mcewen and Koloniar are two of my favorite authors who do great research on tactics and weapons. So does Shannon win the battle of the dueling snipers? Do Pope and Crosswhite survive and finally:what is behind door #9 Read the excellent Sniper and the Wolf to find out!

It's also very cool the interactions between high power individuals and Gil
Different from "Target America", this book storyline is much more rushed. Right at the beginning of the book (for the first 80 pages), we see a long stream of actions happening without any sense at all. If you survive these first hundred pages, than the books starts to become interesting, with a engaging dispute between two exemplar snipers. It's also very cool the interactions between high power individuals and Gil, it seems like the idea of a highly precise and effective operative can make you go and be noticed by whoever you want.

Confusing plot(s) but easy reading and some good characters. This is my second McEwen/Koloniar book, but I will read more.
I don't have any major criticism of this story; it was a little confusing with all the characters, places, and countries involved, but it provided some good action. It was described as sniper versus sniper, but most of the story involved a bunch of other "stuff." Actually, I'm not sure there was a specific plot, just a lot of situations requiring skilled action.I do have a problem with all the attention paid to smoking, especially in non-smoking areas. Do intelligent individuals really revert to smoking when under stress? I would accept the characters stopping for food, drink, or sex as a result of extreme duress. Otherwise, just the plot facts, if you please.Norm

strong military thriller
The third in this enjoyable series. I’ve been warned off the final one so my journey might stop here.I still get strong Vince Flynn/Mitch Rapp vibes from the series, a lead character who doesn’t respect authority and will always get the job done, political games and treachery abound. Here Shannon works with a member of the Russian Spetsnaz to chase down a terrorist threatening oil supply, and he is protected by a sniper who is the equal of Shannon and they are playing in his territory.Nothing to not like in a fast paced military thriller. The balance of ground level action and top level politics and tactics works really well.Great stuff.
