Yes you should be able to mount it that way I lay mine all the time on it's side if I don't have a lot of space in my fridge.

I have only used this tank for beer kegging but I think it would be fine for aquarium CO2 injection. I took a quick look at an aquarium website which suggested that in addition to the tank and regulator you may need a needle valve to make precise flow adjustments.
