Great book, not necessarily believable.
I've read this book twice, and both times I've had the same reaction to it. I like it, it is well written with well developed characters, great dialogue, great narrative, but it falls all over itself in the believability department. I just couldn't quite swallow the story itself. In my mind, it was more like science fiction than it was romantic suspense. I know, from reading reviews, I'm not the only one who felt that way. And in a lot of ways I feel like I'm being disloyal to Ms. Brown, but in this case, it is a good book with a not-so-believable premise.Just because I couldn't believe it doesn't mean it shouldn't be read. I enjoyed it a lot, but it just wasn't clicking with me.

Wonderful Suspense Story
This is a wonderful, heartwarming story about a female reporter who wakes up in a hospital with injuries so serious that she needed tons of plastic surgery. She is also mistaken for someone else - the wife of a handsome, aspiring politician who sets her up for cosmetic surgery that is, not only done to fix her facial injuries, but is also done for the purpose of making her look like his real wife. After that moment, the story takes off without a hitch and it seems that no one is what he or she seems, complete with hidden agendas and a mysterious killer within close circles on the loose. The heroine appreciates how kind her "husband" is to her in the beginning of the book while she is in the hospital and decides to help him out in a murder-for-hire situation that she discovers that he's in. Saving his life suddenly becomes important to her at that moment and I thought it is an admirable goal, especially for a complete stranger. Filled with suspense, eloquence, great characters, lots of unexpected twists and turns, and romance, this book will not leave you disappointed. You will stay on the edge of your seat until you get to the end. Great story!

This Is/Was Fabulous
OMGosh, this book is fabulous. I cannot stress that enough. It seems that every Sandra Brown book is a terrific read. The premise, a fiery airplane crash and mistaken identity, is unusual, but nothing about the story is usual. It is so good I am looking forward to reading it again, once I finish reading every other book Ms Brown has written.

Clever Storyline!
This compelling story held my interest from start to finish.Avery Daniels survived a horrific plane crash while rescuing three-year old Mandy Rutledge from the fiery flames of the wreckage. When she revived consciousness, she was addressed as Mrs. Rutledge in the hospital. Intubated and completely unable to speak, she could not communicate this mistake in her identity. Moreover, her hands were burned and entirely bandaged, incapacitating her from writing anything. Tate Rutledge, her "husband" came to visit her every day. He explained to her that her face had been badly damaged and needed major surgery, and he had secured the services of the best plastic surgeon available to restore her beauty. Avery's face, except for one eye, was completely covered. She desperately tried to communicate with eye movement and tears for him not to go through with this surgery. Ironically, Avery resembled Carole Rutledge, the woman whose identy she would now acquire.Tate Rutledge was running for the U.S. Senate. He was wealthy, handsome, but no longer in love with his wife. Carole Rutledge was a manipulative, cheating woman who cared little for her daughter Mandy. Avery now had to become this woman. She spent three months in a private clinic recuperating from her surgery, and falling deeply in love with Tate. She also learned that someone in his family wanted to kill him. This person came to her when she was in ICU and told her that their plans would still go through no matter that she was injured in the plane crash.Prior to the plane crash, Avery was a journalist. Now, she was determined, in the guise of Carole Rutledge, to find out who was trying to kill Tate. She also had to gain Tate's trust and love before she revealed her true identity. She moves into the family ranch with Tate's family: his father Nelson and wife Zee; his brother Jack and his alcoholic wife andtheir promiscuous daughter Fancy, and Tate's Campaign Manager, Eddy, who lives above the garage. She is suspicious of all of them. Avery eventually learns the truth, but almost at the risk of her own life. This work was well written. The characters are fully developed. And the tension is heightened numerous times throughout this story. Amazon Verified Purchase.

In the time before cell phones
The story is intriguing, a misidentified woman falling into the life of another and deciding to continue the charade to solve a mystery and perhaps save a life. I didn't realize at first that this book was written over 20 years ago until I noticed the absence of cell phones and personal computers, or the thing we all take for granted...the internet. It ended up being a glimpse of how we lived in the not too distant past, which seems like the technological middle ages. The story holds up, and held my attention, even if it is dated by the absence of our most cherished technological conveniences. What didn't hold my attention is what came to seem like the gratuitous sex scenes, which became more and more boring with time. BTDT, move on. Fortunately they were easy to page past and come back to the meat of the story. If you're a fan of romance novels, this might be your cuppa tea. If you're a fan of the mystery story, skip those pages and you might find a book that's an easy enough read and that still keeps the story going...

Very good read
I really liked the story, the build up to the conclusion. The characters were believed although a tiny bit far fetched. All in all it was entertaining and kept my interest to the end. I would read other books of this author. It did leave one character without a conclusion, but it was a minor issue.

shattered narration
When Avery finally leaves the hospital near the middle of this volume, looking exactly like the wife of a future senator, I was thirsty for the real suspense to kick in, as she had by now learned about her "husband's" danger and resolved to save him, but instead of digging more in order to determine who were plotting along with the true Carole to assassinate this man, all her efforts are aimed at screwing him. Avery's supposed to be an investigative journalist, for crying out loud! And yet, once she finds herself entirely at her leisure to go and do whatever she may fancy, she shows up at her husband's office whining about not having enough options to while away her time, which in turn suggests to me that the author ran out of ideas. When Avery decided to give up the scoop and renounce her identity for the sake of mending the wounds of a perfect stranger I lost all interest in the story.

Sehr spannend
