Very good curling iron
Helen of Troy is my favorite brand of curling iron. I've used the 1/2" iron for a couple of years. I tried to order the 3/4" version, but only recently found it in stock at Amazon. My hair is slightly longer now, so I often use the 3/4" but actually switch and use both. H of T is my favorite brand because the irons get REALLY hot. You can easily get burned if you're not careful, but I like the strong heat because my hair is poker straight and a little coarse and the HOT iron gets the job done without me having to do sections twice.

Bristles start breaking off within a month of usage.
Edited 5/13/2016: I've used this product for years and it worked great with longer bristles. It always had a tendency for the bristles to get brittle due to the heat of the curling iron,, and then the bristles break off very easily. The last two I purchased, the bristles starting breaking off within a month of usage. It used to take several months of use for this to happen. The plastic you are using on the bristles is defective. Please remedy this. They recently shortened the bristles and it makes it easy to burn your hand because of this. Please make the bristles longer. Also, they bristles become weak due to heat and start to break. Please make the bristles out of better material. To Helen of Troy: If you could make it get hotter, and make it heat up quickly, and make the bristles longer like they were before, and make the bristles last longer before getting brittle and breaking off , I would give it 5 stars.

Helen of Troy Curling Irons Are The Best!
I've been a Helen of Troy curling iron user for a number of years. The only beauty supply store I found that carried them, recently sold to new owners, and they no longer offer this brand. I've hesitated when it comes to searching for items on the Internet because I'm not that computer proficient. However, in my desperation, I've allowed my fingers to do the walking, and I'm quickly gathering testimonials on my personal searches and purchases with Amazon. Regarding my experience with this brand, I have very cotton-candy, fine, hair and as I age, it's not as thick as it used to be; consequently, fine, AND thinning, even though I wear a shorter, brush-up, style. Helen of Troy curling irons are the only brand I've found that provides the fullness I need without crimping, burning, bending the ends. The iron is so hot, and curls so well, I sometimes can get multiple days from one use. The only problem is my own clumsiness; I keep dropping them, more times than not, and that quickly shorts out the heating element depending on the type of surface it hits. It's not unusual for me to buy two replacements a year; generally, I buy in pairs because I don't want to be without a 3/4". I have one in every size from 1" down. I'm a die-hard fan of this brand and I was thrilled to find it on Amazon. Please continue to offer your varied products so we retirees still have some buying options and flexibility; especially when it's a product that has been regularly used for years. I found ordering them on line can be quite a cost savings as well. Thank you, Amazon Patti Carter

Functional but not made to last
Like several other reviewers, I have been frustrated at the difficulty in finding curling brushes in the stores these days, and I took a chance on ordering this one after reading the mixed reviews on it. For its price, it does the job, but compared to the curling brushes that I used in the 1980s, this one leaves a lot to be desired. Its plastic bristles and on/off switch are both pretty flimsy, and I'll be surprised if this one is still functional two years from now. (Note that the Conair 1/2-inch curling brush I purchased in 1988 still works perfectly and has no broken parts.) The tip is way too short, and I constantly burn my fingers trying to grab the tip, just like several other reviewers reported. It also takes a good five minutes to get hot. In summary, for $16, this isn't a bad deal and it will probably last for a couple of years. It's just much more cheaply made than the curling brushes that were so widely available at places like Wal-Mart 20 years ago.

Quality has fallen off somewhat, but still a good product
I've bought several of these brush irons in past years, and the 1-1/2" size is especially hard to find. The source I previously ordered from isn't carrying them any more so I turned to Amazon. Good news: The iron now has a built-in rest that holds the barrel up so it doesn't burn the countertop. Also, the off-low-high heat switch is better. Bad news: Some of the bristles have already broken off. I didn't have that problem with this item previously. (I tried to remove the bristle strips from my old iron to have as spares before I tossed it, but I couldn't get them out of the grooves.) The bristles seem to be made of a less sturdy plastic than my old ones. Good thing I bought 2 of these. Guess they don't make them like they used to. Update 5/25/15: Most of the lettering next to the high-low-off switch has worn off. A few more bristles have broken off. I'm still using the brush, but will probably be forced to buy another one for a spare in the near future. (I set aside the first one and will probably use it when traveling.) Again, I'm disappointed that the quality has gone south on this product but if I want this size hot brush, I don't really have much choice. Other than that, the iron seems to heat up fine and do what I need. I am dismayed by the bristles breaking off, however.

These brush's which have the teeth and heat up like a traditional iron are getting harder to find. Most blow hot air instead of a heating up. This one works great.

I owned my first Helen of Troy brush 15 years ago and needed a new one. Still this product is superior. Heats fast and is easy to handle. Bought 2 more as gifts and each friend has loved it as well
